Touch ‘n Go (TNG) has introduced a new TNG RFID termination feature on its portal. The TNG RFID tag can only be tied to a single vehicle and if you plan to transfer ownership of the car or if the car is stolen, you can now terminate the tag immediately.
According to TNG, you should only terminate your RFID tag if your vehicle has been stolen or lost, or if you’ve sold the vehicle. If you sold your car, the new owner will not be able to register a new RFID tag for the vehicle until you terminate the old one. To get started, just log in to the TNG RFID portal. If you forgot your password, you can request a reset using your registered email.
After logging in, you should see the RFID tags that are registered to you under MyVehicles. Click on the tag you wish to terminate, and then click on the ACTIONS drop-down menu, and select Terminate Tag.
Next, you’ll need to select the reason for termination (e.g. change owner, vehicle sold, voluntary termination, lost or stolen vehicle). And then hit submit to proceed.
Once confirmed, the tag will be terminated immediately. Users can also view the status of the tag which will reflect the “Terminated” status.
If you’re planning to terminate the RFID Tag because it is faulty, you can actually request a free RFID replacement from Touch ‘n Go. Each user who purchased the tag (excluding users who got it for free during the pilot) is entitled to one free replacement if the tag is faulty or damaged. You can’t redeem the replacement once the tag is terminated.
To get a replacement, just go to the RFID Portal, click on the RFID Tag, and then select “Request replacement tag” from the drop-down menu. You will be required to fill up a form including the delivery address.
A brand new TNG RFID tag costs RM35 and you can link up to 10 RFID tags to a single eWallet account. The TNG RFID is available for purchase on the TNG eWallet app and they are offering RM8 cashback until 30th June 2022.
Malaysia aims to implement barrier-free Multi-Lane-Free-Flow tolling on highways by 2025 via RFID and this means that the existing TNG card and SmartTAG lanes will be phased out in phases. However, before the barriers can be removed, tougher laws against toll evaders will be required.
