Besides dropping the face mask mandate for outdoor setting as well as MySejahtera check-ins, Malaysia’s Ministry of Health has also revised its test and release procedure for individuals who are COVID-19 positive from 1st May. If you got infected with COVID-19, you can be released earlier from quarantine if you’re tested negative on Day 4.
Early release from quarantine if tested negative on Day 4
At the moment, fully vaccinated individuals who are tested positive for COVID-19 are required to undergo quarantine for 7 days. Under the new procedure which will take into effect starting this Sunday (1st May), you can be released earlier if you can provide a negative RTK-Ag COVID-19 test result that’s supervised physically or virtually on the 4th day of quarantine.
The test result must be uploaded to MySejahtera by a medical practitioner. You are officially released from quarantine once the test result is reflected in the app.
If your RTK-Ag test result is still positive on Day 4, you are required to complete the full 7 day quarantine period. On the 7th day, you are released from quarantine with no further test required.
Mandatory quarantine no longer required for COVID-19 close contacts regardless of status
In case you missed it, the Ministry of Health has already relaxed the quarantine requirements for COVID-19 close contacts. Starting 22nd April 2022, close contacts regardless of vaccination status are no longer required to be quarantined. If you’re experiencing symptoms, you are only encouraged to self isolate and perform a RTK-Ag self-test on the first day of having symptoms as well as on the third day.
During today’s press announcement, the Ministry of Health has also relaxed the requirement for social distancing from 1st May and it is only encouraged when you’re not wearing a mask. Hand shake and greetings are also permitted but you are reminded to wash or sanitise your hands regularly.
Here’s a quick recap of the new SOP relaxations from 1st May 2022:
