Microsoft’s PC Game Pass now official in Malaysia, available at RM5 for 3 months

Back in March, Microsoft finally brought the PC Game Pass video subscription service to Malaysia—but only on a trial basis. It had cost just RM0.50 to join the trial and you had to jump through a number of hoops too such as downloading the Xbox Insider app. Well, for those of you who held out, Microsoft has decided to launch the PC Game Pass in Malaysia for real now.

If you head over to the Microsoft Malaysia page, you’ll be greeted with a special PC Game Pass banner inviting you to join now. It costs RM15 per month typically, but for now until the 20th of May 2022, you can get a total of three months of PC Game Pass for just RM5. Do note though that this offer only applies to new subscribers only, meaning those who took part in the trial for RM0.50 will not be able to take advantage of this new offer. Your subscription will also automatically renew for RM15 per month when your first three months are up.

[UPDATE 24/4/22] : So Microsoft Malaysia has gotten in touch to clarify that users who took part in the trial are still able to enjoy the introductory offer of RM5 for three months of PC Game Pass. You’ll want to check your inbox for an email from Microsoft on how to do so. Alternatively, you can sign into your PC Game Pass account, hit ‘Manage’ and then turn off recurring billing. Then, click here while signed in and you should see an option to extend your membership with the discounted offer.

The PC Game Pass offers a significant number of video game titles for you to play at what is honestly a pretty decent price. There’s a bunch of new and exciting titles such as Forza Horizon 5, Back 4 Blood and Age of Empires IV, older but still popular games such as Minecraft and ARK: Survival Evolved as well as games from other studios such as Bethesda’s Dishonored and Elder Scrolls franchise. Not to mention PC Game Pass also comes with titles from the EA Play subscription bundled together; EA Play by itself typically costs RM17/month. There’s plenty of titles that will be available from its release as well, such as the upcoming Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.

“Our goal is to bring PC Game Pass to more countries where Windows is available to help us reach over 3 billion gamers worldwide. We are off to a strong start in Southeast Asia where we saw great demand for PC Game Pass during the preview period. We are listening to the players and are always looking to improve the experience. This includes growing the selection of games across genres and providing better language support,” – Jeremy Hinton, Xbox Asia Business lead

Once you’ve signed up for PC Game Pass, you’ll need to download the Xbox app for PC to download and manage your games too. The Xbox app lets you browse the full library of games available on PC Game Pass, as well as buy any other games from the Microsoft store not on Game Pass. There’s some chat functionality too but realistically I doubt gamers are shifting away from Discord to the Xbox app.

To check out the PC Game Pass for yourself, you can click here to head to its website.
