Huawei today has already launched the MatePad 10.4 tablet in Malaysia, but that wasn’t the only new device they have for our shores. The Chinese giant also revealed updated configurations of their ever popular MateBook D15 laptops, this time coming with 11th Gen Intel Core processors.
The Huawei MateBook D15 now comes with 11th Gen Intel Core processors, specifically the Core i5-1135G7. There’s two new models available in Malaysia, and here’s how much they’ll cost:
If those specs seem familiar to you, then you’re right. Huawei Malaysia is actually relaunching their MateBook D15 laptops with 11th Gen Intel Core processors that first appeared last year. Okay at least to Huawei’s credit, this ‘relaunch’ of the MateBook D15 with 11th Gen Intel Core processors is indeed much cheaper than the original retail prices it came with. When they made their first debut last year, the MateBook D15 with a Core i5-1135G7, 8GB RAM and 512GB storage was priced at RM3,699 while the higher spec one with double the RAM went for RM3,899.
Besides, this ‘relaunch’ also comes with some freebies worth up to RM827 if you get a MateBook D15 from the 22nd April onward, which include a free Huawei backpack, a Bluetooth mouse as well as a pair of Huawei FreeLace wireless earbuds. You can do so from the Huawei Malaysia online store and their official Shopee store as well as their retail partners such as Senheng and Harvey Norman.
Look I was honestly tempted to just redirect you guys to last year’s article about the Huawei MateBook D15 but alas here I am. It has a 15.6-inch, FHD IPS display in a regular 16:9 configuration with an 87% screen-to-body ratio. The display isn’t the greatest though if you’re particularly picky when it comes to displays, as it has just 250nits of brightness and a 45% coverage of the NTSC colour gamut as well as an 800:1 contrast ratio. The whole thing weighs roughly 1.56kg and measures 16.9mm thick, with two colour options too in Mystic Silver and Space Grey.
Under the hood, it has the aforementioned 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor with up to 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. No discrete graphics card of course, but you still do get the dependable Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics. The MateBook D15’s relaunch also sees it coming with Windows 11, though depending on who you ask that may not actually be a good thing. You also still get the recessed 720p webcam that films you in a rather awkward angle.
Powering the laptop is a 42Whr battery while bundled together is a 65W USB-C power brick. As for I/O you get a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB-C port, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.2 port and a HDMI 1.4b port. There’s a fingerprint sensor on the power button too for easy biometric unlocking. Connectivity meanwhile gets taken care of by Bluetooth 5.1 and WiFi 6 support, while Huawei Super Device also lets you link your laptop to your other Huawei-branded devices such as the P50 Pro or MatePad 10.4.
It’s still a little peculiar that Huawei are ‘relaunching’ the Core i5-1135G7-powered MateBook D15 laptops in Malaysia, rather than just announcing a price cut across the range. It would’ve been perhaps better to see MateBook D15 laptops powered by the latest 12th Gen Intel Core processors. Nevertheless, as mentioned earlier it’s still a not insignificant reduction in price along with some goodies too.
