Realme is launching their 8.7″ Realme Pad Mini tablet in Malaysia next week

Realme had launched their popular Realme Pad tablet late last year, with even our friends over at SoyaCincau BM giving it a good review. Since then though, we’ve seen a couple of new tablets enter the scene here, such as the Nokia T20 and Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 which are priced fairly competitively against it. Realme are now responding it seems with a new tablet, the Realme Pad Mini, and Realme Malaysia are set to launch it this 20 April.

Realme Pad Mini specs

Despite it only launching next week, we do already know quite a fair bit about the Realme Pad Mini as it’s already been launched in the Philippines. For starters, it has an 8.7-inch, HD+ IPS display pushing a 179ppi pixel density with an 84.59% screen-to-body ratio. The chassis itself measures 7.6mm thin, and the tablet weighs just 372g. Incidentally, this means that it doesn’t qualify as a tablet for the PerantiSiswa program, the Communications and Multimedia Ministry had set a list of requirements which includes at least a 10.1-inch display.

Under the hood, you’re getting a Unisoc Tiger T616 system-on-chip processor, which utilises two Cortex-A75 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores, mated to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. External benchmarks show that it’s somewhat similar in benchmark performance to the MediaTek Helio G80 that powers the larger Realme Pad. Unisoc processors are no stranger to the entry-level tablet segment of course, with the Nokia T20 and Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 using the Tiger T610 and Tiger T618 respectively. It comes with Android 11 out of the box using the Realme UI for Pad skin.

Keeping the lights on is a 6,400mAh battery with 18W fast charging via USB-C. According to Realme, you’ll be able to use the Realme Pad Mini for up to 15.8 hours of continuous video streaming. It has stereo speakers as well as a 3.5mm audio jack too. There’s also an 8MP rear camera along with a 5MP front camera too. As for connectivity, it appears that there will be WiFi-only and LTE models, with WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 support too. The Realme Pad Mini comes in two colours, namely blue and black.

As for pricing, we’ll need to wait till the 20th of April for local pricing but we do know how much it already costs in the Philippines. There, the Realme Pad Mini with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage starts at PHP9,990 (~RM807) while the higher spec model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage costs PHP11,900 (~RM969). This means that it’ll likely debut in Malaysia with a lower price than the Realme Pad’s original RM899 starting price, as in the Philippines the Realme Pad had a PHP10,990 starting price.
