Following its launch of their first foldable phone, Vivo have also revealed its first real tablet to the world, the Vivo Pad. It’s a pretty powerful-looking device that also shares a lot of similarities with its sister company’s Oppo Pad tablet that launched a while back, though it does bring along with it some notable upgrades.
The Vivo Pad is so far only limited to China, and there’s no information from them just yet on whether they plan to bring it to our shores. Here’s how much they’ll cost in China:
Notably, by starting at CNY2,499, it is priced rather competitively with the Oppo Pad, which starts at CNY2,299 but for a configuration with just 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. On top of that, the Oppo Pad with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is priced at CNY2,999, the same as the Vivo Pad. There’s a third variant of the Oppo Pad with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage priced at CNY2,699 though. The Mi Pad 5 Pro that also has a Snapdragon 870 powering it meanwhile starts at CNY2,399.
As mentioned earlier, the Vivo Pad is pretty similar to the previously-launched Oppo Pad. You’re looking at a 11-inch, IPS display with a WQXGA (2560 x 1600) resolution and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz along with a 240Hz touch sampling rate. It covers the whole DCI-P3 colour gamut and also comes with HDR10 certification. The whole chassis is CNC-milled aluminum and measures just 6.5mm thin while weighing 489g.
Under the hood, you’re getting the relatively powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 system-on-chip, mated to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. While you will be getting Android 12 out of the box, it will come with their own tablet-optimised skin dubbed the OriginOS HD. Some pretty cool features that this new UI has includes split-screen multitasking as well as being able to link up with your smartphone using NFC. For parents looking to get the Vivo Pad for their kids, there’s a built in ‘Kids Mode’ too that’s packed with educational content for children of all ages. You can also hook it up to an external display using the USB-C 3.2 port.
As for cameras, it actually packs a solid dual rear camera setup, with a main 13MP camera flanked by another 8MP ultrawide shooter located in a circular camera bump. On the front of the Vivo Pad meanwhile is a 8MP selfie camera that also has a 3D time-of-flight sensor next to it. The Vivo Pad also has stylus support as well as pogo pins on the side for you to connect a keyboard to; a Vivo stylus with 4096 levels of pressure and the Vivo smart touch keyboard are optional accessories you can get for CNY349 and CNY599 respectively.
Other features of note include a large 8,040mAh battery with 44W fast charging as well. Vivo says you should be able to get up to 11 hours of video playback with a full charge of the battery. There’s also NFC, Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6 support for connectivity. However, there’s no mention of 5G support, likely indicating this is a WiFi-only tablet for now. You’ll also find a quad-speaker setup on the Vivo Pad, though again no 3.5mm audio jack here. The Vivo Pad will come in two colours, which are black and blue.
