After plenty of hype and build up, Realme has finally launched the Realme GT 2 Pro on our shores. Having first been announced during the MWC 2022 event, it’s now here and becomes Malaysia’s cheapest smartphone with an Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 under the hood—assuming you buy it during the pre-order promo period that is.
There’s just one variation of the Realme GT 2 Pro with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and that will come with a recommended retail price of RM2,999. However, Realme are running a few special promotions, with their flagship smartphone priced at just RM2,599 if you get it on their official Shopee store from 25-26 March and from 30-31 March. If you do get it during this promotional period, you’ll get a pair of Realme Buds 2 NEO for free too.
On top of that, you can also get the Realme GT 2 Pro for its retail price from their authorised physical stores from the 26 of March onwards. If you do so between the 26 and 27 of March, you’ll walk away with a Realme Watch 2 Pro for free too.
The Realme GT 2 Pro has a pretty unique look to it, having been designed by the Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa. It gets a body build out of a biopolymer material derived from renewable resources such as paper pulp, and Realme says that during production of the back panel they’ve cut carbon emissions by 35.5%.
As for the front, the Realme GT 2 Pro is perhaps just as impressive, featuring a 6.7-inch, WQHD+ AMOLED display with LTPO 2.0 technology allowing for a variable refresh rate between 1 to 120Hz. There’s a touch sampling rate of up to 1000Hz as well as a peak brightness of 1400nits, a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. To top it all off, there’s a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus over it too for scratch resistance too.
Under the hood, you’ll find Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 system-on-chip mated to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Keeping all of that cool is a stainless steel vapour cooling system with a 36,761mm² cooling area. The Realme GT 2 Pro comes with Realme UI 3.0 skin over Android 12 out of the box, and Realme is promising three years of major Android OS upgrades with a total of four years of security patches.
Meanwhile, in the camera department you’ll find a main 50MP, f/1.8 main camera using the Sony IMX766 sensor and features optical image stabilisation too. This gets flanked by a 50MP, f/2.2 ultra-wide angle camera that is also the world’s first 150° ultra-wide camera on a smartphone. Lastly, there’s a 3MP micro-lens that provides up to a 40x magnification. On the front of the Realme GT 2 Pro is a 32MP, f/2.4 selfie camera using the Sony IMX615 sensor.
Elsewhere, there’s a pretty solid 5,000mAh battery with 65W SuperDart fast charging that Realme says will fully charge your Realme GT 2 Pro in just 33 minutes. However, there’s no wireless charging nor is there any IP rating for the device. It does have stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos certification though, along with a dual-mic array. The fingerprint sensor meanwhile is located under the display. As for connectivity, there’s support for 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC too. The Realme GT 2 Pro comes in two colourways, namely Paper White and Steel Black.
