After having first launched in China in December last year, the hotly anticipated Xiaomi 12 series is finally here in Malaysia. The Xiaomi lineup has always been a really popular flagship smartphone for many Malaysians thanks to its premium, high end specs and the Xiaomi 12 series is likely no different. If you still need convincing though, there are eight big reasons why the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro stand out.
Both the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro are powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 system-on-chip, built on cutting-edge 4nm process. It sets a new standard for mobile processors, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 the first from Qualcomm to use the new ARmv9 architecture.
There’s a main Cortex-X2 prime core running at 3.0GHz, three Cortex-A710 performance cores at 2.5GHz and four more Cortex-A510 efficiency cores at 1.8GHz. There’s also a new Adreno GPU paired with Qualcomm’s Adreno Frame Motion engine for more frames when gaming without using more power. Overall, Qualcomm say that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 provides up to 20% more performance over the last generation Snapdragon 888 while also using 30% less power, while the new GPU is 30% faster in graphics rendering too and 25% more energy efficient.
Keeping all of cutting edge performance cool is no mean feat though, and Xiaomi have made doubly sure that the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro will be able to provide a smooth and stable performance. The Xiaomi 12 Pro comes with an extra large 2,900mm2 vapour chamber with three large heat dissipation graphite sheets, while the more compact Xiaomi 12 still has a 2,600mm2 vapour chamber with over 10,000mm2 in graphite sheets. All of this will help ensure your Xiaomi 12 series smartphone will be able to perform smoothly even under the heaviest of loads.
If you’re still stuck waiting hours on end for your smartphone to charge itself up, you’ll be happy to know that the Xiaomi 12 Pro comes with their latest 120W Xiaomi HyperCharge fast charging technology paired to a large 4,600mAh battery. The Xiaomi 12 Pro also has AdaptiveCharge smart charging features that can learn your day-to-day charging routine to optimise its long-term battery health. Xiaomi’s Surge P1 charging IC meanwhile further enhances the battery’s capacity and output for better charging efficiency. If you prefer wireless charging, the Xiaomi 12 Pro also features 50W wireless turbo charging too.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 12 has a 4,500mAh battery despite its compact body, thanks to a high-power density battery material which offers all-day use with no battery anxiety. It also comes with AdaptiveCharge to learn your battery charging and usage behavior. As for fast charging, you get a speedy 67W wired turbo charging with 50W wireless turbo charging too. Both the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro also feature 10W reverse wireless charging so that you can power up your accessories like wireless earbuds on the go.
The Xiaomi 12 Pro comes with a premium pro-grade triple 50MP camera setup on the rear of the device, with a main 10MP wide camera using the flagship extra large Sony IMX707 sensor which has improved light capturing capabilities by 120% compared to last generation devices. There’s also a 50MP ultra-wide angle camera with a 115° field-of-view as well as a 50MP telephoto camera that offers a 48mm focal length.
All of this combined gets you some of the most powerful camera hardware we’ve ever seen on a Xiaomi smartphone, and is just the latest attempt by Xiaomi to provide cutting-edge cinematography in the palm of your hands.
Of course, high end hardware will need to be matched with quality software as well to ensure your photos and videos turn out great. The Xiaomi 12 series comes with a host of software features to ensure you’ll have the easiest time when using the cameras, such as Xiaomi One-click AI cinema and Xiaomi ProFocus. Here’s some shots taken with the Xiaomi 12 series:
Those of you who love taking videos in low light conditions meanwhile will be pleased to see Ultra Night Video on the Xiaomi 12 series, which provides you with solid videography capabilities even in tough low-light conditions. There’s also a bunch of portrait modes allowing you to take portrait shots on par with those taken in a professional studio.
The Xiaomi 12 series comes with an all-new iconic design to match the high-end components under the hood. You’ll find a sleek middle frame with 3D curves wrapping around the device front-to-back and corner-to-corner on the Xiaomi 12 Pro to create an elegant yet snug and comfortable look and feel in your hand. The Xiaomi 12 on the other hand also features a similar design philosophy but in a more compact chassis so that fans of smaller devices will be able to have a flagship choice too.
The larger Xiaomi 12 Pro houses a 6.73-inch, WQHD+ AMOLED display capable of up to a 120Hz refresh rate, with AdaptiveSync Pro allowing the Xiaomi 12 Pro to automatically adjust the refresh rate depending on the use case for maximum efficiency. Meanwhile, the smaller Xiaomi 12 has a 6.28-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display that also comes with AdaptiveSync for up to a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Xiaomi 12 is perhaps one of the few to have an amazing 12-bit display capable of a whopping 68 billion colours. This is on top of a 1,100nits peak brightness and a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1. Plus, with a DisplayMate A+ rating, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, the Xiaomi 12 will be able to provide some of the best displays in a compact package.
As for the Xiaomi 12 Pro, its Samsung E5 display has been given a DisplayMate A+ certification too and is capable of up to 1,500nits of peak brightness. It has Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support as well, while both devices have up to a 480Hz touch sampling rate. The Xiaomi 12 series devices come with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus as well for industry leading scratch resistance.
Of course, there’s no point in having a brilliant display without also having brilliant speakers, and the premium Xiaomi 12 series delivers here too. The Xiaomi 12 Pro is the first Xiaomi smartphone to come with a quad speaker setup, with SOUND BY Harman Kardon. The four speakers come in the form of two tweeters and two woofers and will be able to deliver clear details and cover an astonishingly wide range of sound.
As for the Xiaomi 12, it will come with a dual stereo setup that is also with SOUND BY Harman Kardon. Both devices are powered by Dolby Atmos too for rich spatial sound in a handheld package.
All of the Xiaomi 12 series devices will come with three years of Android OS upgrades, and up to four years of security upgrades so you rest assured that your Xiaomi 12 or Xiaomi 12 Pro will still have the latest security patches and version of OS even in a few years time.
Furthermore, pre-order any of the Xiaomi 12 series devices and get a VIP service package on your premium flagship device, with a 1+1 year extended product warranty worth RM499 and a free screen replacement worth RM199 within 6 months upon purchase for damages under warranty.
