To sweeten the deal, Xiaomi is offering a 1+1 year extended warranty (worth RM499) and a free screen replacement for the first 6 months (worth RM199) during the pre-order period. If you pre-order the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro with 256GB of storage, you’ll also receive an additional free Xiaomi Soundbar 3.1ch (worth RM1,499). Take note that the freebies are offered while stocks last.
The Xiaomi 12 is currently the most powerful compact flagship Android smartphone. It features a 6.28″ Full HD+ (2400×1080 pixels) AMOLED display that has a 120Hz Adaptive Sync refresh rate. It supports Dolby Vision, HDR 10+, 1,100 nits of peak brightness and boasts a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1. Under the hood, it runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 1 paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, which isn’t expandable.
For taking pictures, the device gets a triple-camera setup featuring a 50MP f/1.88 wide camera using a 1/1.56″ Sony IMX766 sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 5MP telemacro camera. For selfies, it has a 32MP in-display selfie camera that supports AI portrait video and selfie night mode.
The Xiaomi 12 features symmetrical dual speakers tuned by Harmon Kardon and it supports Dolby Atmos. In terms of connectivity, it supports 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 as well as NFC. Powering the device is a 4,500mAh battery that supports 67W fast wired charging. It also supports 50W wireless charging as well as 10W reverse wireless charging.
The Xiaomi 12 Pro is not just a larger sibling but it features a better display, camera and speaker setup. Upfront, it gets a 6.73″ QuadHD+ (3200×1440 pixels) AMOLED display which also supports a Dynamic 120Hz refresh rate. The screen has a peak brightness of 1,500 nits and boasts a contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1.
Similar to its smaller sibling, it runs on a Snapdragon 8 gen 1 but with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of non-expandable UFS 3.1 storage.
While the camera bump looks similar to the Xiaomi 12, the Pro model gets a more versatile triple-camera setup that uses 50MP for all cameras. It gets a 50MP wide-angle camera using a 1/1.28″ Sony IMX707 sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera. For selfies, it retains a similar 32MP front camera.
The Xiaomi 12 Pro also boasts a quad-speaker setup that consists of tweeter and woofer units on each side. However, the device only gets a single speaker grill for both the top and bottom ends. The rest of its connectivity features including 5G is also similar to the Xiaomi 12. Powering the Pro is a slightly larger 4,600mAh battery but it supports a higher 120W Xiaomi HyperCharge. It is rated to deliver a full charge as quickly as 18 minutes in boost mode. Also supported is 50W wireless turbocharge and 10W reverse wireless charge.
As part of its VIP service offering to Xiaomi 12 owners, they are offering a free screen replacement and two years of warranty as standard. On top of that, Xiaomi is also promising 3 years of Android OS upgrades plus 4 years of security upgrades. Since the Xiaomi 12 comes with Android 12 out of the box, these devices could be updated up to Android 15.
During the global launch event, Xiaomi has also announced the cheaper Snapdragon 870-powered Xiaomi 12X but it isn’t offered for the Malaysian market. With a promo price of RM2,799, the Xiaomi 12 128GB isn’t the most affordable flagship smartphone with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 1 chip in Malaysia. That title goes to the Motorola Edge 30 Pro which is priced at RM2,699 and comes with 256GB storage.
