With Intel having recently released their 12th Gen Intel Core mobile processors, Acer has announced that their ever popular Swift 3 and Swift 5 laptops will be getting refreshed with these new CPUs too.
Acer Swift 5 specs
Starting with the Acer Swift 5, the laptop also comes with Intel Evo certification on top of their new 12th Gen Intel Core processors. Unfortunately, Acer didn’t actually specify which ones of Intel’s new processors they’ll be putting under the hood. There’s potentially two different lineups to choose from now, with 12th Gen introducing the P-series of mobile processors that have a 28W TDP compared to 12th Gen U-series chips that are rated for a 15W TDP. However, judging from them stating that there’s up to 12 cores in the processors used, it’s likely the P-series chips as the U-series tops out at 8 cores only. These will come with Intel Iris Xe graphics, and up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 2TB of SSD storage.
Keeping all of that silicon cool meanwhile is a new upgraded TwinAir dual fan system with D6 heat pipes combined with an air inlet design on the keyboard itself. All of that gets packed into a chassis that’s just 14.95mm thin and 1.2kg heavy, built out of aluminum. The Swift 5 also gets a 14-inch, WQXGA (2560×1600) touchscreen display in a 16:10 aspect ratio for more screen real estate. It also has a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass over it for extra strength and protection. The touchpad is also noteworthy for being made out of ocean-bound plastic, which Acer says will still provide a glass-like feel to it.
Other features of note include a FHD webcam with Windows Hello as well as Acer’s Temporal Noise Reduction technology for high quality video even in low light conditions. It also comes with WiFi 6E connectivity, while you’ll find a fingerprint scanner on the power button too. Being an Intel Evo certified device, Acer claims up to 10 hours of real world battery use, while a 30 minute charge will also get you around 4 hours of use.
Acer Swift 3 specs
As for Swift 3, it too has been refreshed with Team Blue’s latest and greatest 12th Gen Intel Core processors. However, just like the Swift 5, Acer has not specified exactly which CPUs will be used. For cooling, it has Acer’s TwinAir dual fan cooling system that Acer claims offers 65.8% better cooling over a single fan setup. Acer are also packing it with up to 2TB of storage, but didn’t mention how much RAM it’ll come with. The Swift 3 will come with a 14-inch, touch sensitive display too, but in the more traditional 16:9 display, with either FHD or QHD resolutions.
Acer hasn’t given much else in specs, but we do know that it has at least a HDMI 2.1 port, a USB-A port and a USB-C port. It also features WiFi 6E connectivity while its speakers will come with DTS Audio too. The Taiwanese giant also claims that you’ll be able to get up to four hours of battery life with just a single 30-minute charge, but didn’t specify how long the new Swift 3 will last with a full charge.
Pricing and availability
So far though, Acer has only confirmed that the Acer Swift 3 and Swift 5 will be available in Europe, China and Middle East by April, while North America will get them by June. The Swift 3 will start at USD849 (~RM3,564.10) while the Swift 5 will start at USD1,499 (~RM6,292.80). As for local pricing and availability, there’s no word just yet of when these refreshed models will be brought to our shores, but we’ll update you guys once we hear from Acer Malaysia.
