ViewQwest offers 1Gbps business fibre broadband plan with 1Gbps upload speeds

Broadband provider ViewQwest has introduced its new business broadband offering with speeds up to 1Gbps. According to ViewQwest, they are the first to introduce a 1Gbps business broadband plan in Malaysia and it is offered from as low as RM338/month.

The highest 1Gbps business plan is offered in either 24 or 36-month contract options, and they are bundling a free Netgear Nighthawk MK62 Mesh WiFi 6 (2-pack) router. For the 36-month option, they are charging RM338/month for the first 12 months, and RM378/month for the subsequent months. Meanwhile, the 24-month option costs RM348/month for the first 12 months, and RM388/month for the remaining months.

If you don’t need 1Gbps, the next option is 800Mbps which costs RM328/month on a 36-month contract or RM338/month on a 24-month contract. There’s also the 500Mbps option which costs RM258/month on a 36-month contract and 300Mbps for RM178/month on a 36-month contract option.

ViewQwest also offers affordable options such as 30Mbps and 100Mbps which costs RM88/month and RM118/month respectively on a 36-month contract, but they are only bundling a WiFi 5 Netgear R6850 wireless router.

Symmetrical speeds for both download and upload

Unlike most fibre broadband providers that offers slower uploads, ViewQwest is offering symmetrical speeds for its business fibre plans. This means the 1Gbps plan gets 1Gbps for uploads, while the 300Mbps plan gets 300Mbps for uploads, which is great for businesses that require higher bandwidth for upload.

By default, the ViewQwest business fibre plans come with public dynamic IP but you can add on RM10/month to get a static IP for your connection. ViewQwest claims to be the first and only provider to offer latency-based routing for optimal network performance for businesses. They also provide dedicated 24/7 priority business support and account managers for their business customers.

ViewQwest CEO Vignesa Moorthy said “At ViewQwest, we want to empower businesses to do more at a greater value, and we believe in setting the pace in achieving this. By introducing Malaysia’s first 1Gbps business broadband plan – the fastest business-grade plan in the market currently, we are helping businesses of all sizes implement speed and data-intensive business tools and communications technology in their day-to-day operations.”

“With more and more businesses embracing digitalisation in the wake of the pandemic, including SMEs, it is important to help level the playing field. We are doing this by increasing accessibility to fast, reliable, and affordable fibre broadband connections, thus contributing towards improving productivity and efficiency through our Latency-Based Routing technology and Zero-Traffic Shaping policy,” he added.

Availability limited to key commercial and business hubs

The high-speed 1Gbps and 800Mbps options are currently available in selected areas in the Klang Valley and Johor Bahru. This includes Bangsar South, Mid Valley City, Aurora Place, Eco Ardence, KL Sentral and Imazium Tower. From the looks of it, ViewQwest business fibre offering is for high-speed internet only and there are no additional add-ons such as voice calls.

How does it compare with other business fibre plans?

ViewQwest’s business fibre offering is quite competitive when compared to other business fibre plans. As a comparison, TM’s top-of-the-line 800Mbps Unifi Biz plan costs RM349/month on a 24-month contract while their 500Mbps offering costs RM299/month. Meanwhile, Maxis offers business users 800Mbps for RM349/month and 500Mbps for RM269/month. Both Unifi and Maxis offer 200Mbps upload for the 800Mbps plan and 100Mbps upload for the 500Mbps plan.

Time which offers 1Gbps broadband for home consumers doesn’t seem to offer 1Gbps for small businesses. Time does not publish their business fibre plans on their website but some resellers revealed that their top business fibre offering is 300Mbps (100Mbps upload) for RM258/month. It is also worth pointing out that TM, Maxis and TIME offer voice calls with their plans along with additional value-added services and SME grants that might be applicable for small businesses.

Despite ViewQwest claims to be the first to introduce a 1Gbps business fibre plan, it appears that Celcom has already offered 1Gbps for businesses but only in Sabah on Celcom’s own fibre network. The 1Gbps Celcom Home Fibre Plan for business costs RM229/month while their 500Mbps option costs RM200/month. However, the upload speeds are asymmetrical with 200Mbps for the 1Gbps plan and 100Mbps for the 500Mbps option.
