After the successful Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series in 2020, fans of the large form factor smartphone line might’ve been disappointed to hear last year that there wasn’t another new rendition of the Galaxy Note. However, the Korean giant has heard you loud and clear, and with the new Galaxy S22 series comes the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which takes a lot of the best parts of a Galaxy Note device and merges it together with their flagship Galaxy S series.
The first big change with the Galaxy S22 Ultra is also perhaps the most obvious: the design. The Galaxy S22 Ultra’s slim and light frame takes a lot of its inspiration from fan-favourite Galaxy Note devices of yesteryear. Samsung have taken the Galaxy Note’s legacy design and optimised it for the modern Note experience with its built-in S Pen for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. This includes the bold angles and sharp corners Galaxy Note users have come to love, but modernised of course. On top of that, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has the most expansive and premium display we’ve ever seen on a Galaxy smartphone. It carries forward the legacy of the Galaxy Note devices with its vivid, large 6.8-inch, QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X curved edge display.
Meanwhile, on the rear of the device is a sleek and reimagined linear floating camera layout for its 108MP main camera, 12MP ultra wide shooter and a 10MP 3x telephoto lens on top of a 10x 10MP telephoto lens. Surrounding the camera lenses is a mirror effect to offer users a more sophisticated camera design. And all of that gets packed into a chassis that gets trendy but timeless colours, such as the classic Phantom Black or the more graceful Phantom White. For a more neutral look there’s also the Green colour scheme while those wanting a more luxurious look may prefer the Burgundy.
The other major change with the Galaxy S22 Ultra though is quite literally kept hidden from sight—in a stylus silo that is. Samsung has finally brought the S Pen to the Galaxy S series, and it gets stored in a Note-esque silo on the bottom of the device. This makes it easy to carry it around and convenient to use simply by pulling it out. And when you do use it, you’re in for a treat thanks to the ultra fast S Pen’s low 2.8ms latency. This gives it a much more natural writing and drawing experience compared to the older S Pen included with the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
You’ll be able to keep track of your ideas and sync your calendar across devices with the new Samsung Notes app too, giving you a digital note-taking experience that’ll feel natural in no time. In fact, if you happen to also get yourself one of the new Galaxy Tab S8 series of tablets, you’ll be able to use the Galaxy S22 Ultra in tandem with the tablet as a secondary display.
That’s not all of course. With the new Galaxy S22 Ultra, you’ll also be getting the latest system-on-chip in the form of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It offers some of the most powerful and stable performance you can get in a smartphone capable of both playing the latest games as well as handling the heaviest of tasks. Furthermore, the Galaxy S22 Ultra also features the most advanced AI processing ever seen in a Galaxy device for best-in-class machine learning, with twice the AI processing performance compared to the Galaxy S21.
So if you’re finally tempted to replace your aging Galaxy Note device, now’s the time to do so with the Galaxy S22 Ultra. In fact, if you pre-order any one of the Galaxy S22 series devices, you’ll also be able to snag yourself exclusive rewards and freebies worth up to RM1,168. Among the freebies you can get is the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Bluetooth (40mm) worth RM899 for anyone who pre-orders a Galaxy S22 device. On top of that, there’s also a LAMY Safari Twin Pen worth RM269 for those who pre-order the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
