Realme 9 Pro+ will get a feature that was removed by Samsung since the Galaxy Note 10

The Realme 9 Pro+ is launching soon and this would be their top-of-the-line mid-range smartphone with 5G. Ahead of the launch which is scheduled for 16th February, Realme VP Madhav Sheth has revealed earlier last week that the Realme 9 Pro+ will come with a nifty health feature that was previously included as standard on early Galaxy flagship devices. The built-in heart rate sensor was removed from Galaxy devices starting with the Galaxy Note 10 series.

As shared on Twitter, the Realme 9 Pro+ will come with a heart rate sensor to help you keep track of your health. Unlike Samsung’s solution of putting a heart-rate sensor on the rear of the device, Realme is implementing an on-screen unit similar to a typical on-screen fingerprint sensor. From the looks of it, you’ll need to put your finger at a specific spot on the display for 15 seconds to get your heart rate reading.

It is worth mentioning that Xiaomi has a similar on-screen heart-rate sensor for the Mi 11 in China. The device’s fingerprint sensor doubles as a heart rate sensor and it also takes 15 seconds to get a measurement via the health app.

While this is a nifty feature to have, most smartphone makers including Samsung have turned to wearables to measure your heart rate periodically. Not only this would provide a more regular reading but it can be used as a tool to give you alerts of unusual heart rate patterns.

Realme 9 Pro and Pro+ Launch

The Realme 9 Pro and Pro+ are launching on the 16th February 2022 at 1.30PM in India (4:00pm Malaysian time). Targetting Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, Realme aims to raise the bar for the mid-range segment by incorporating Sony’s IMX766 sensor with optical image stabilisation. In case you didn’t know, this is the same 50MP 1/1.56″ image sensor that’s found on flagship devices such as the Xiaomi 12, Oppo Find X3 Pro, OnePlus 9, Honor Magic 3 and Oppo Reno Pro 6 5G.

In terms of specs, the Realme 9 Pro+ is expected to feature an AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and it will run on a MediaTek Dimensity 920 processor. There’s support for both NFC and 5G, and word has it that it will feature dual-speakers for stereo audio playback. The Pro+ model is expected to come with a 4,500mAh battery with support for 60W fast charging via USB-C. All details including pricing should be revealed next week. It isn’t clear if the Realme 9 Pro+ will eventually come to Malaysia so we’ll have to wait and see in the next couple of weeks.
