VivoBook 13 Slate OLED: Asus’ 2-in-1 OLED laptop now available in Malaysia for RM3,499

Just last week, we saw the local availability of the Microsoft Surface Pro 8, arguably one of the best Windows 2-in-1 machines out there today. However, Asus is offering a slightly different take on the 2-in-1 Windows device concept, with their VivoBook 13 Slate OLED. It was originally shown off back in November last year, but is now available for purchase in Malaysia.

The Asus VivoBook 13 Slate OLED is priced at RM3,499 and is available now on the official Asus store on Lazada and Shopee as well as authorised retailers nationwide. It’s a little pricey, especially when you consider that it launched for just €599 (~RM2,837.09). However, it’s understood that Asus has since revised its price to €699. As part of its launch promo, the first 100 buyers from now till the 14th of February will snag a Touch n’Go eWallet reload PIN worth RM200 as well as an Asus wireless mouse worth RM69. This is on top of a copy of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2021 and a year of Asus Perfect Warranty that covers accidental damage.

Asus VivoBook 13 Slate OLED specs

As its name implies, the big star feature here is its OLED display. It’s a 13.3-inch, FHD OLED display capable of a peak brightness of 550nits with a 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. It also has been validated by PANTONE, has a 0.2ms response time and a 93% screen to body ratio. The display is capable of a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio too, and has DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification for deeper blacks than the average laptop display.

The Asus VivoBook 13 Slate OLED also looks to be targeted towards artists too, with the Asus Pen 2.0 stylus included in the box with the laptop. It’s Microsoft Pen Protocol 2.0-compliant and has a 4096-level pressure sensitivity, 5-350g pen tip force and a 266Hz sampling rate. It’s also set to be a solid content consumption device, as the OLED screen has been paired to a quad-speaker setup that has Dolby Atmos as well as a smart amplifier to drive higher volumes without distortion. Meanwhile, you’ll also find a detachable full size keyboard in the box, as well as a cover stand that gives a 170° hinge stand and a sleeve to store the device.

Things are perfect not as great under the hood though, as the VivoBook 13 Slate OLED is powered by an Intel Pentium Silver N6000, a fairly weak piece of silicon typically reserved for entry level devices. This gets paired to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and a 256GB PCIe Gen 3.0 SSD. As for I/O, you get two USB-C 3.2 ports, a microSD card reader and a 3.5mm audio jack. Connectivity meanwhile gets taken care of with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. You’ll also find a 5MP webcam on the front as well as a 13MP rear camera. The VivoBook 13 Slate OLED will come with Windows 11 out of the box.

Keeping the lights on is a 50Whr battery that Asus says will last you 9.5 hours, while the bundled 65W power brick will charge your VivoBook 13 Slate OLED from 0 to 60% in just 39 minutes. Other features of note include a fingerprint sensor on the power button too for one touch logins as well as AI noise cancelling audio for clearer audio during conference calls. The overall chassis weighs just 785g, and measures 309.9 x 190 x 7.9mm in size.
