Microsoft Surface Pro 8 now available for pre-order in Malaysia, starting at RM4,950

Microsoft had first unveiled their latest generation Surface Pro 8 2-in-1 Windows machine back in September of last year. However, they’ve just only announced that Malaysians can pre-order it from today onwards.

Microsoft Surface Pro 8 pricing and availability

You’ll be able to get the Surface Pro 8 at their authorised retailers such as All IT, Gloo, Harvey Norman PC Image, and TMT as well as the official Microsoft Flagship store on Lazada and Shopee. Pre-orders start today, while general availability will begin from the 15th of February onwards. If you do opt to pre-order from one of their authorised retailers, you’d also be able to get a Surface Pro Signature Keyboard worth RM699 for free.

As for the Surface Pro 8 itself, here’s how much it’ll cost you:

  • Surface Pro 8, Intel Core i5-1135G7, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD – RM4,950
  • Surface Pro 8, Intel Core i5-1135G7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD – RM5,250
  • Surface Pro 8, Intel Core i5-1135G7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD – RM6,490 (Harvey Norman only)
  • Surface Pro 8, Intel Core i7-1185G7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD – RM7,350
  • Surface Pro 8, Intel Core i7-1185G7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD – RM8,750

Additionally, Microsoft are teaming with Gloo and Harvey Norman to open up a new Microsoft Concierge service at their Low Yat Plaza and Pavilion Bukit Jalil 2 branches respectively. Those considering a Surface device for themselves can head over to the Microsoft Concierge, who’d then assist you in picking out the right Surface device to buy as well as helping you set up and use your new Surface.

Microsoft Surface Pro 8 specs

When they first unveiled the Surface Pro 8, Microsoft dubbed it their most powerful Pro device yet, powered by 11th Gen Intel Core processors. You’ll get either the Core i5-1135G7 or the Core i7-1185G7, with up to 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of SSD storage. Graphics get taken care of by Intel Xe Graphics, and the Surface Pro 8 comes with Windows 11 Home out of the box. Unfortunately, Malaysians won’t be able to get their Surface Pro 8 kitted out with up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, a configuration that’s available in other regions. It should perhaps also be noted that Intel has since launched their 12th Gen Intel Core mobile processors, so it’s certainly a little dated already at launch here.

The display itself has been upgraded from the Surface Pro 7’s 12.3-inch display. Microsoft have made it bigger, packing a 13-inch, PixelSense display with a higher resolution 2880 x 1920p, 3:2 display. The bezels are thinner and the display supports Dolby Vision and Adaptive Colour Technology too. One other major upgrade in the display is the refresh rate. While it defaults to 60Hz most of the time, when you use it with a stylus or with touch, it switches to 120Hz for a smoother feel. This is thanks to the new Dynamic Refresh Rate feature on Windows 11.

Speaking of stylus, you can also get the Microsoft Surface Slim Pen 2 that’s sold separately for RM499. It pairs and charges wirelessly and can be stored securely with your Surface Pro 8 in a slot on the Surface Pro Signature Keyboard. The latter meanwhile comes with a full function row, backlit keys and better key spacing, although the touchpad it comes with is arguably still a little too small for comfort. Keeping the lights on is a 51.5Whr battery that Microsoft claims will last you up to 16 hours of use with ‘typical Surface device usage’.

Elsewhere, the Surface Pro 8 has two USB-C ports that are both USB 4.0 as well as Thunderbolt 4 capable. You’ll also find a Surface Type Cover port, a Surface Connect port and the 3.5mm audio jack. The Surface Pro 8 comes with a pair of 2W stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos as well as a dual far-field microphone setup. On the rear of the body is a 10MP camera capable of 4K video while the front camera is a 5MP camera that you’ll also use for Windows Hello. It supports WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 too. The chassis is made of anodised aluminum and comes in either platinum for the base model and black for the other configurations.
