Huawei’s newest product is a smart school bag with GPS and a 1.54-inch display

Huawei is no stranger to the whole idea of making every other thing in your house a smart device, and it’s something many other companies are also involved in. However, their latest product in China is certainly a little more eccentric than their usual stuff, as it’s a smart schoolbag meant for kids.

Dubbed the Huawei 9µm Smart Positioning Children’s Schoolbag, it’s, well, a schoolbag for kids. Unlike your average school bag though, it has a 1.54-inch display on the front. Once set up via HarmonyOS connect, parents can set everything from class schedules, clocks, eSignatures and more. Moreover, thanks to the built-in GPS on the 9µm Smart Positioning Children’s Schoolbag, parents can check in on where their kids are even if their child isn’t carrying a smartphone with them. Parents can also set it into high frequency mode, which checks in on the child every two minutes to provide real time location information to the parents. The bag also comes with an IP67 rating, meaning that it should be able to take on even the roughest of days in school.

The 9µm Smart Positioning Children’s Schoolbag can also be set into one of three modes, namely home, school and other. Furthermore, once the child walks into the school, parents will receive a message alerting them that they’ve entered the school compound. This would actually be a great solution for working parents whose kids go to school by themselves with the bus for example. Keeping everything powered is a tiny 1,300mAh battery that should be capable still of keeping the tiny display running just fine for the day.

As for the actual ‘schoolbag’ part of the 9µm Smart Positioning Children’s Schoolbag, it’s certainly not of your typical design. In fact, it perhaps looks more like a large handbag than an actual schoolbag. Huawei rates its storage capacity at 17L, and it measures 340x290x170mm. It has a five-point load reduction design, which they claims can help spread the weight of the schoolbag and helps the child to maintain proper posture when carrying it. The bag itself weighs just under a kilogram, at 0.97kg, and Huawei says it’s been tested to only use materials safe for children. It comes in two colourways, blue and pink.

The bag itself isn’t technically a final product though. Huawei is selling it on their Vmall eCommerce platform as a means of recruiting public testers, who can buy it for just CNY699 (~RM461); the 9µm Smart Positioning Children’s Schoolbag will likely cost more if it ever launches for real. If you’re interested in checking it out for yourself, you can visit the Vmall page for it here.
