Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa has revealed that a total of 342 mobile towers in Selangor have been impacted by the recent floods and have caused disruption to telecommunications services. As of 22nd December, a total of 153 towers have been restored while the 189 towers are still in the process of recovery.

Minister has provided a list of affected mobile sites as well as the current status. Shah Alam is the worst affected with 93 towers yet to be restored, followed by Sepang with 23 towers and Klang with 21. He shared among the challenges faced by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the telcos are inaccessibility to the affected sites and power disconnection by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) for safety reasons.

The restoration of the mobile networks is expected to be completed as soon as the power supply is restored by TNB. The MCMC has also discussed with the amateur radio associations for their help as an alternative channel of communications for affected areas. Several amateur radio systems are up and running for badly hit areas. He said mitigation works are underway to ensure affected residents could communicate as soon as possible.
