Yes to offer unlimited 5G data from RM30/month?

It appears that YTL Communications has revealed its 5G user trial plans ahead of tomorrow’s announcement. YTL said that it will be the first telco in Malaysia to offer 5G services through Digital Nasional Berhad’s (DNB) 5G network.

Lowyat.net has managed to obtain screenshots of the 5G page which shows the Yes Prepaid and Postpaid plan with 5G data. At the time of writing, the page is no longer accessible. According to the screenshot, Yes is offering free unlimited 5G data until 31st March 2022 on its Yes Prepaid RM30 and Yes Postpaid RM50 plans.

The RM30 prepaid plan is essentially their Kasi Up Prepaid Unlimited which offers Unlimited 4G data capped at 7Mbps and 9GB of hotspot data. Meanwhile, the postpaid offering is the existing Kasi Up Postpaid 49 which offers 100GB of data with unlimited calls. According to Lowyat, there will be no price increase for customers that sign up for the Prepaid and Postpaid plan before April 2022 but it isn’t clear if it includes the unlimited 5G data perk.

Although DNB promises to offer a minimum of 100Mbps speeds at the weakest coverage point, Yes did not mention any speed cap when you’re connected to 5G. DNB aims to have 500 sites ready by the end of this month to cover Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and selected parts of Kuala Lumpur.

Besides having 5G-enabled plans, Yes appears to be offering 5G devices on a contract which include Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo, Nokia, and Oppo. The screenshot details appear to be incomplete as the pricing and monthly instalment are the same for the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE, Xiaomi 11T and the Xiaomi 11T Pro. We expect Yes to reveal more details during tomorrow’s Yes 5G showcase.

TM has also announced that it will be participating in 5G user trials with DNB. It said Unifi Mobile postpaid users with certified 5G devices will be able to experience 5G in selected areas within Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya, but there’s no mention of its availability.
