Just a few days before Christmas, Huawei is launching a new foldable device that’s called the Huawei P50 Pocket. This is expected to be a flip phone that’s based on their current Huawei P50 flagship.
The P50 Pocket is launching on the 23rd of December 2021 at 08:30 CET (3:30pm Malaysian time). Based on the teaser image, it looks like it will come in two colours. There’s a possibility that it could have a dual-tone design like Samsung’s Bespoke edition. Besides the new foldable device, we reckon that Huawei will also introduce other products including the Huawei Watch D that comes with a blood pressure monitor feature.
In the past week, it is speculated that Huawei’s upcoming foldable device will be called the Mate V and photos of the purported casing has been leaked online. It features a two-piece design and two large cutouts for the massive “dual-camera” bump from the P50 series.
So far there are no hardware specs yet but we reckon that it should carry over similar features from the Huawei P50 series including the camera. The P50 Pro gets a quad-camera setup which includes a 50MP main camera, 40MP mono camera, 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 64MP telephoto camera that can push up to 100x digital zoom.
The Huawei P50 series was released in China in July and the Pro model is offered in both Kirin 9000 and Snapdragon 888 versions in China. The Huawei P50 Pro is coming to Malaysia very soon with a Snapdragon 888 processor. However, based on the official product page, it won’t come with Google Mobile Services and there’s no 5G support.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is currently the most accessible new foldable device in the market with price starting from RM3,999. It features a flexible 6.7″ Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and it runs on a Snapdragon 888 processor with 5G. It also has IPX8-rated water resistance and a pair of stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos.
