Setel now lets your family members pay for petrol using your eWallet balance

Setel, the petrol payment app by Petronas, has introduced Setel Share, which claims to be the first eWallet sharing feature in Malaysia. With Setel Share, you can allow your family members or loved ones to pay for petrol using your Setel Wallet balance.

Setel Share allows you to add up to two people into your sharing group and they must first sign up as a Setel user. If they are not Setel users yet, you can provide them with your referral code and both of you will receive at least RM5 Setel credit.

As the main eWallet user, you can track expenses made by your members and you also get to earn Mesra points for each transaction. At the moment, the share feature only works for fuel payment and it can’t be used for Kedai Mesra purchases. The main Setel user will receive real-time notifications when a member makes a transaction.

Before you can activate Setel Share, you are required to upgrade your Setel Account with a higher wallet size. Previously, the Setel Wallet has a maximum wallet size of RM500 but you can now upgrade it RM5,000. To upgrade, you will need to perform an electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) process which requires you to take a picture of your IC as well as a selfie.

To add your Setel Share members, just tap on “More” at the bottom right of the screen and then select “Setel Share”. Although Setel supports direct payment via credit card, the Share feature only works with your Setel Wallet. This means you will have to maintain sufficient balance before your members can make a transaction. To avoid potential payment failure or an embarrassing situation, you can enable auto top-up using your saved debit or credit card. You are able to set it to automatically reload when the balance goes below a specific minimum amount and select a preferred top-up amount of at least RM20.

The Setel app is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei App Gallery.
