GoEV: GoCar lets you drive a Nissan Leaf from RM24.90/hour

GoCar has officially introduced GoEV, a new electric vehicle option where you can drive a Nissan Leaf from RM24.90/hour. The EV vehicles are available for booking starting today and you also get free access to a wide network of EV chargers nationwide.

According to GoCar, there is currently 25 units of Nissan Leaf available for car-sharing and subscription, with plans to scale up to 100 units in the next 12 months. On the car-sharing option, you can rent it from RM24.90 per hour and for long-term use, you can subscribe to the vehicle from RM2,299/month.

The vehicle comes with a chargeEV card which allows you to charge the Leaf at over 300 EV charging stations throughout the country. GoCar currently has 2 fast AC chargers at their headquarters in Petaling Jaya and they plan to add DC chargers in the near future.

At the moment, there are 3 EV car sharing zones located at GoCar Malaysia Petaling Jaya Hub, MyTown Cheras, and Avenue K in KL City Centre. GoCar aims to set up a total of 10 GoEV zones by the end of this year.

How to book the Nissan Leaf on GoCar?

If you’re interested, you can book the EV via the GoCar app which is available on both Apple AppStore and Google Play Store. To find the Nissan Leaf, just tap on “Select Car Model” on the booking screen and select “Nissan Leaf (EV)”. For first-time users, you will need to go through a verification process that requires you to snap a photo of your IC/passport, drivers’ license, and a selfie holding the document.

During the booking, you can select your preferred Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) which ranges from RM2.49 per hour (maximum cap of RM2,000 for damages) to RM14.94 per hour (maximum cap of RM200 for damages). If you’re new to GoCar, you’ll have to pay a one-time membership fee of RM200.

The Nissan Leaf on GoCar costs RM24.90/hour but if you book it for 24 hours, it will cost you RM249.00. The longer you book, the daily rate would be cheaper as well with 7 days costing RM1,225 (RM175/day) and a 30-day booking costing RM3,180 (RM106/day). From now until 31st January 2022, you can get 25% off with the promo code TRYGOEV.

On the subscription plan, the Nissan Leaf can be yours for RM2,499/month on a 24-month contract or RM2,299/month on a 36-month duration. The subscription option comes with a wall box charger that can be installed at your home.

Nissan Leaf Specs

The Nissan Leaf is an all-electric vehicle that is priced from RM181,263 in Malaysia. It’s a five-seater hatchback that comes with an electric motor that pushes output of 150PS (about 148hp) and 320Nm of torque. It can do 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds with a top speed of 155km/h.

On a single charge, it is rated to provide up to 311km of driving range from its 40kWh battery. This is said to be a 60% increase from the previous Nissan Leaf model. If you’re planning to make a trip from Kuala Lumpur to Penang or Johor Bahru, you would need to make a charging stop mid-way.

With a 6.6kW charger, a 30-minute charge can deliver 22km of range while a full charge takes 7 hours. The Leaf supports 50kW fast charging where you can get 78km of range with a quick 15-minute charge or a full charge in just an hour.
