Oppo Find N 5G: Is this Oppo’s challenger to Samsung foldables?

There’s been a lot of speculation for some time now that Oppo are planning to launch a foldable smartphone. We’ve seen their prototypes before of course, with even a rollable smartphone being showcased, but so far none of these have hit the shelves as an actual product.

However, according to a new set of leaks, Oppo are apparently going ahead with their foldable device, dubbed the Oppo Find N 5G. First, Digital Chat Station on Weibo began posting using a device called the Oppo Find N 5G, with a picture of the old Oppo N3 from 2015 that had a motorised camera for both selfies and normal shots. He then made another post, this time claiming that the Oppo FInd N 5G will have a foldable display as well as a way of using its main 50MP shooter for selfies too.

Following that, Arsenal, another leakster on Weibo, revealed that the Oppo Find N 5G will have a number of new features, including curved folding screens and in-house designed image processors. He alleges that Oppo’s rumoured foldable will have an 8-inch, 2K AMOLED inner display with 120Hz refresh rate, a 6.5-inch, FHD AMOLED outer display with 60Hz refresh rate and a further third smaller display, perhaps for selfies like the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. Furthermore, other specs include a Snapdragon 888 SoC, Oppo’s own image signal processor, a rear 50MP shooter with OIS, a 13MP telephoto lens, stereo speakers and a 4,500mAh battery with 65W fast charging.

Arsenal continues by revealing its price too, starting at RMB12,999(~RM8,632.39) for the base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the higher tier configuration with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage will cost RMB14,999(~RM9,960.56). However, not everyone seems so certain of his bold claims. Another prominent leakster in the community, Ice Universe, quickly claimed that these specifications are wrong, replying to those on Twitter who shared Arsenal’s leaks.

As such, it’s perhaps wise to take Arsenal’s claims with a small pinch of salt for now. With that being said, it’s clear that many are excited and are waiting for Oppo to launch their own foldable device. In the years since Samsung first launched the Galaxy Z Fold, we’ve yet to seen a real competitor to the Korean giant in this regard, with a few Chinese foldables never really making a dent to Samsung’s dominance. Perhaps then Oppo will have something up their sleeve to really shake up the scene.
