UTAR student crowned Adobe Certified Associate 2021 world champion, beating 65,000 other contestants

Every year, the company Certiport organises the Adobe Certified Associate World Championship, a global competition built to test the design skills of students around the world with Adobe’s suit of tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. This year, it was held as an online competition, and coming out on top was Malaysia’s own Danny Tse Wei Chun.

The competition was held from the 16th of November till the 18th, and Danny Tse was one of the 51 finalists from over 65,000 submissions to take part in it. Students participating would create a design project for one of Certiport’s non-profit clients, and this year it was Limbitless Solutions, a US-based non-profit that makes affordable and accessible prosthetics for children. Judges comprised of folks from Certiport, Limbitless and Adobe’s own experts, and the top prize consists of USD7,000, a medal of achievement, a certificate and a trophy.

Danny’s submission on the left

Danny ended up on top, beating out the 50 other participants in the finals with his submission above on the left. Having previously won the 2020 Adobe Certified Associate Championship Malaysia, the Digital Animation graduate from UTAR’s Faculty of Creative Industries was given six hours to meet Limbitless’ requirements and their brand aesthetics while also showing their use of Adobe Creative Cloud programs. Second prize went to Brazil’s Gustavo Souza, while third place went to Gina Anjarizky Amalia from Indonesia.

“All of the entries demonstrated a clear aptitude for design, and an incredible artistic flair. We were really impressed by the professional-level work these students accomplished in just six hours – which proves they can follow client instructions and use both their innate design abilities and the Adobe skills they’ve learned in school to create something amazing.

We are grateful we got to work with them to showcase the power of art and engineering in the lives of our bionic families.” – Mrudula Peddinti, Limbitless Solutions’ Branding Director

Danny’s alma mater was also impressed, with UTAR’s Dean of Creative Industries Dr David Tneh Cheng Eng commending his achievement, stating that they were very proud of Danny’s result in the Adobe World Championship. He called it a testament of his creative, digital and problem-solving skills while also thanking the faculty members of the Department of Multimedia Design and Animation for helping to mould their students.
