Malaysia and Singapore to open Causeway and Second Link for selected fully vaccinated travellers on 29 November

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad has revealed that the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) for land border crossing between Singapore and Johor Bharu will be opened on 29 November 2021, the same day as VTL for air travel. This will allow quarantine-free travel by land between the two countries.

However, the land VTL via the Causeway and Second Link will only include long-term pass holders who are employed or working in Singapore or in Johor Bahru. This was shared by the Menteri Besar during the launch of Four Points by Sheraton Desaru Hotel. Hasni is confident that next year would be the year of optimism and growth for all economic sectors in Johor. The state hopes for a quick rebound in the gross domestic product (GDP) and a decline in the unemployment rate as international borders are slowly reopening.

As announced earlier, Malaysia and Singapore have agreed to start the Vaccinated Travel Lane between Changi and Kuala Lumpur International Airport from 29th November 2021. Under the arrangement, travellers who are fully vaccinated are able to travel without quarantine but they would be required to undergo a COVID-19 test.

Shortly after the announcement, there was a sharp rise in flight bookings between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. At the time, it was reported that there were only 6 flights designated for quarantine-free travel between the two countries. In case you missed it, Singapore Airlines currently operates the world’s shortest A380 flight between Changi and KLIA. If you’re keen, a return economy ticket is priced from RM572.
