Was the Grab app down for you this morning? Or is it still down for you? Whatever it is, Grab has definitely been experiencing a “service disruption“, and it has also affected users in other Southeast Asia besides Malaysia—including Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand.
At 9.19am today, Grab Malaysia tweeted out an announcement confirming that the app was down which may result in it “not working as expected”. As of now at the time I’m writing (4.30pm), they have yet to make another announcement regarding any changes or fixes. But they have been actively replying to other Twitter users’ tweets about the issue.
Currently, it doesn’t look like the app has been fully fixed yet. Grab Twitter account replied to a user saying that their technicians are still trying to fix the app. However, it looks like the fix is a gradual one to “ensure that it can be up and running again gradually, phase by phase”.
As a refresher, Grab is a “super app” which provides users with many different services like food deliveries, car rides, grocery deliveries, package deliveries, and others. One of the problems face today, as reported by Twitter users, is that the Grab app wouldn’t let users enter the location when booking for a service.
But when I tried booking for a car ride not too long ago (at about 4.20pm), I was able to type in the location and book for one with no problems. I haven’t, however, tested out the other features yet.
Affected users were seen tweeting about the app being down from around 7.40am—and it was mostly coming from the users in the Phillippines. The app was down not just for passengers but also drivers, who were unable to receive jobs.
If it still doesn’t work for you, Grab Malaysia recommends that you try reinstalling the app. But as long as they haven’t confirmed that the app is fully fixed, you might still face some issues. As of 5.47pm, it appears that they are still fixing it.
