Apple allegedly planning new iMac Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max processors for 2022

The original iMac Pro was launched by Apple back in 2017, and was their then most powerful Mac ever. It came at a time when many Apple users were loathing the trashcan Mac Pro from 2013, and wanted something more. Unfortunately, the iMac Pro never saw a refresh, eventually being discontinued earlier this year.

However, serial Apple leakster Dylandkt has revealed new information about Apple’s plan for the iMac Pro. According to him, we’ll be seeing a new iMac Pro launch in the first half of next year, and will come in two models, powered by the M1 Pro and M1 Max respectively. As was the case with the original iMac Pro, it’ll have dark bezels around the display but no word yet on a notch; Dylandkt claims Face ID was tested, but he couldn’t confirm if it’ll be included in the final product.

Other bits of information provided in that thread include details about the display, which is supposedly a 27-inch, MiniLED display with ProMotion technology. It’ll replace the current 27-inch iMac in Apple’s product stack, which is still powered by an Intel CPU. He also adds that while it’s currently being called an iMac Pro, Apple could decide to launch it as an iMac still. Nevertheless, he believes that it will be the new iMac Pro as it comes with the more powerful M1 Pro and M1 Max processors.

Then there’s also word of Apple including a HDMI port, which has never been included in an iMac before. We might also see an SD card slot, USB-C ports and an ethernet port that will be on the power brick. Dylandkt claims that this supposed iMac Pro will start at over USD2,000.

The 2017 Apple iMac Pro

Of course, it goes without saying that you should be taking these rumours with a pinch of salt, but Dylandkt does have a fairly solid track record when it comes to Apple-related leaks. According to AppleTrack, Dylandkt currently has a 75% accuracy rating when it comes to Mac and Apple Silicon stuff, with mostly reliable information from time to time.

Nevertheless, until Cupertino shows it off, we’ll never be completely sure of its validity. However, I’m sure many an Apple fan would love to see a new iMac Pro hit the shelves, seeing as the last one was a relative hit amongst power users seeking a simpler alternative to a Mac Pro.
