Huawei Malaysia is bringing in their latest MateBook 14s to our local market very soon. It’s powered by the latest 11th gen Intel Core processor and it comes with a 90Hz 2.5K display. The new MateBook will be launched in Malaysia soon through an online live stream event.

The Huawei MateBook 14s comes with a 14.2″ LTPS touch-screen display that pushes a resolution of 2520×1680 pixels in a 3:2 aspect ratio. It offers a 100% sRGB colour gamut, 400 nits of maximum brightness, and a contrast ratio of 1500:1. For a fluid visual experience, it boasts a higher 90Hz refresh rate which can be toggled up from 60Hz with a keyboard shortcut.

Under the hood, it runs on an 11th gen Intel Core H-Series processor with Iris Xe graphics. According to the official product page, you can get it with either the i5-11300H or i7-11370H option. It can be configured up to 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD. To keep things cool during intensive use, the laptop has a dual-fan system that features S-shape fan blades to deliver 25% greater air intake.

If you don’t like the unflattering angle from the pop-up webcam on the previous MateBook 14, you’ll be happy to know that Huawei has placed the 720p HD webcam above the screen for the new laptop. Besides the fingerprint sensor, the laptop also supports Face Unlock for instant access. The MateBook 14s also offers improved audio with a 4-speaker setup that promises to offer a more powerful bass.

For clearer conversations during video calls, it also gets 4 built-in mics that can pick up your voice up to 5 metres away. There’s also AI Noise Cancellation and Personal Voice Enhancement feature to filter out unwanted voices and noises.

If you have a compatible Huawei device, it can support multi-screen collaboration. This allows you to drag and drop files seamlessly from another Huawei device or use a tablet as a second screen.

In terms of connectivity, it supports 160Hz 802.11ax WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. It has two USB-C ports that support data, charging and DisplayPort, a USB-A 3.2 Gen1 port, an HDMI port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The spec sheet states that the Core i7 version supports Thunderbolt 4 on the 2nd USB-C port. The MateBook 14s gets a 60Wh Lithium polymer battery and it supports 90W fast charging via USB-C.

Out of the box, it comes with Microsoft Windows 10 Home pre-installed and it is upgradable to Windows 11. According to Huawei, the upgrade rollout plan to Windows 11 is still being finalised and it is scheduled to begin in late 2021. For Malaysia, it appears to come in two colours – Space Grey and Spruce Green. Overall it weighs 1.43kg and has a thickness of 16.7mm.

At the moment, there are no pricing details and you’ll have to wait for the full details during the Huawei APAC Autumn product launch that’s scheduled for 7pm on 28th October 2021.
