Malaysia has fully vaccinated over 70% of its population against COVID-19

Malaysia’s National Immunisation Programme has hit a new milestone as more than 70% of the total population have completed their COVID-19 vaccination as of 18th October 2021. Over 48 million vaccine doses have been administered so far nationwide. 25.2 million people or 77.3% of the total population have received at least one dose while 22.9 million individuals or 70.2% have been fully vaccinated with either a single or two-dose vaccine.

In terms of the fully vaccinated rate relative to population, Malaysia is currently ahead of Japan (67.70%), United Kingdom (66.53%), Germany (65.23%), South Korea (65.92%), and the United States (56.28%).

In terms of the adult population, 97.2% have received at least one dose and 94% have been fully vaccinated. The federal government have lifted interstate travel restrictions on 11th October after 90% of total adults have been fully vaccinated.

Malaysia has already started administering vaccine booster shots for high-risk groups. This includes medical frontliners and senior citizens aged 60 years old and above. As of 18th October, a total of 30,756 booster doses have been administered so far.

In terms of teen vaccinations, a total of 2.4 million teens (78.9%) aged between 12 to 17 years old have received at least one dose and 940,960 (29.9%) are fully vaccinated. You can view the vaccination progress at the school level via COVIDnow.

According to the COVIDNow dashboard, Malaysia continues to show a downward trend in the number of new cases, ICU cases and deaths due to COVID-19. Malaysia has recorded less than 10,000 new daily cases over the past two weeks and there are 5,434 cases recorded on 18th October, which is the lowest since 28th June.
