Report: Samsung still plans to release the Galaxy S21 FE, while Galaxy S22 launch could be delayed to February

It appears that Samsung is going to quiet in the final quarter of 2021 after the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 in August. Many were expecting the Korean smartphone maker to release the Galaxy S21 FE (Fan Edition) but the budget flagship device was reportedly cancelled due to a shortage of chips. Now there’s a new report that suggests that the Galaxy S21 FE is still back on the table but you would need to wait until next year to get it.

Instead of launching the S21 FE in October, Sammobile reported that Samsung is now aiming to launch the device in January 2022. Launching a “2021” S21 model in 2022 is definitely strange especially when Samsung introduces their new Galaxy S flagships in the first few months of the new year. The Galaxy S21 series was launched in January while the Galaxy S20 series was launched in February.

Sammobile claims that the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE release will be a low-key affair with just a simple press release announcement. There won’t be a dedicated Galaxy Unpacked Fan Edition event like last year’s Galaxy S20 FE. The device will be available in limited quantities in selected countries while other markets will have to wait a bit longer.

It is also reported that the Galaxy S22 launch could be delayed to mid-February just before Mobile World Congress 2022 (MWC 2022). Previously, Samsung had used MWC Barcelona as the venue to reveal its new Galaxy S series from the Galaxy S5 until the Galaxy S7, as well as the Galaxy S9. It is also said that the delay could give Samsung more time to stockpile enough chips to launch their next-generation flagship smartphone.

A report from Korea recently reported that one of the reasons why the Galaxy S21 FE was cancelled was due to the encouraging response for their Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 which are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888. As a result, they are focusing their production capacity and chip supply on their foldable devices.

As seen recently, the Galaxy S22 Ultra might be the perfect Galaxy Note replacement. After Samsung started to add S Pen support to its flagship devices last year, it appears that the new S22 Ultra may feature a proper silo to keep the stylus just like a Note device.
