Squid Game “experiences” are super popular on Roblox now… and they’re really fun

Netflix’s Squid Game has been the talk of the town lately—and in addition to it being the source of a huge meme on TikTok right now, it is also the source of inspiration for a boom in Roblox-based games. And you know what? I’ve tried some of them out, and they’re pretty fantastic.

If you aren’t familiar with Roblox—you either aren’t a child or don’t know any children. It’s an online game platform and game creation system where you can make or play virtually almost anything (as long as it’s… vaguely suitable for kids) including an official Universal Studios replica where you get to ride their rides.

Even though Roblox has a huge kids-based audience, some of its most popular games include (sort of) violent games like “Survive the Killer“. But it’s honestly just harmless but sort of scary fun. This includes a huge sudden popularity in games inspired by the violent survival show, Squid Game.

I’ll try to explain what Squid Game is about without spoilers, but it is a South Korean survival drama about a group of people who risk their lives in a mysterious survival game—kind of like Hunger Games or Battle Royale. The games in the show include “Red Light, Green Light”—where players try to reach the finish line without being caught moving. If you get caught moving you’d get eliminated.

The game is basically the same in the series, except that when people get eliminated, they would… die. So, if you’ve been wanting to try the game out without risking your real life, you are able to with a huge list of games on Roblox.

There are different variations of the same “Red Light, Green Light” games that you can search for, but they mostly have the same set. It includes a “waiting room” which looks exactly like the big hall in the TV show—including the beds, the stairs, the big door, and the big piggy bank above the players’ heads.

You’re also given a timer telling you how long it will be until you get to play next. You’re also placed in the hall along with the many other Roblox players waiting, too.

You’re then able to head into their “game room”—complete with the iconic robot doll looking out for players who move out of turn. If you’re caught moving out of turn (when she sayd “red light”), your Roblox character dies and you’d get sent back to the waiting room.

There are also other games based on Squid Game that you can play, like the glass bridge game and tug-of-war. But so far, “Red Light, Green Light” has been the most fun and exciting game.

There are already several Squid Game-based Roblox games on the site’s “Popular” section. Apparently, it is extremely difficult to get your game featured on Roblox’s front page—which just goes to show how popular the trend is.
