Free Yes Altitude 3 for Prihatin Programme now replaced with better options

It appears that YTL Communications is now offering a different device for its free phone programme. To refresh your memory, Yes was previously bundling free Yes Altitude 3 phones with 30GB of data as part of its initiative to help B40 families with their children’s online learning. However, there were a number of reports of the Altitude 3 phones catching fire, which raises concerns about the safety of the devices.

Free Yes TCL L7

According to the latest press announcement, Yes is now offering customers more choices with additional Yes Prihatin Postpaid and Prepaid options. Similar to the previous offering, B40 families can redeem their RM300 subsidy by getting a free phone with free 30GB of data for 12 months without a contract. Instead of a Yes Altitude 3 or 4, Yes is now providing a Free Yes TCL L7 device as listed below:

The Yes TCL L7 is still an Android 10 (Go Edition) device with significant hardware upgrades compared to the lower-spec Altitude 3. It has a 5.5″ HD+ display and runs on a Qualcomm 215 processor. Based on photos of the device posted on Carousel, the free TCL phone comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It also gets a 3,000mAh battery which is 50% larger capacity than the Altitude 3.

On top of having a free phone, Yes is also including a RM50 Shopee voucher and free access to education and entertainment content.

If all you need is just free data, Yes is also offering prepaid wireless broadband plan. With the RM180 Jaringan subsidy, eligible B40 individuals can get a free Huddle XS MiFi along with free 30GB of data for 12 months.

Free Samsung Galaxy A02 available for RM15/month

If you are looking for a better Android phone, there’s also the free Galaxy A02 option that’s tied to an RM15/month postpaid plan for 12 months. There’s no deposit required and you will get unlimited calls, 15GB of data plus 2GB data daily. That’s a total of 75GB in a month including the free daily data.

Take note that the free Samsung Galaxy A02 is only applicable for eligible households that can redeem RM300 subsidy under the Jaringan Prihatin programme. For individuals that are only eligible for the RM180 subsidy, the device will cost you RM105 upfront while the monthly subscription fee remains at RM15/month for 12 months.

For non-B40 users, Yes is also currently offering the Samsung Galaxy A02 is offered for RM1 with its RM49/month postpaid plan. It is also tied to a 12-month contract and the plan comes with 100GB of data plus unlimited calls to all networks.

Yes extends free data for Learn from Home until 31 August 2022

Since students are still unable to go back to school, YTL Foundation is providing additional 5GB of data per month from the expiry of the data plans provided under the Learn From Home initiative until 31st August 2022. According to YTL, the move is to ensure that children in B40 families can continue learning despite the prolonged school closure.

In case you missed it, the SoyaCincau BM had posted a hands-on review of the Yes Altitude 3. Is it any good for online learning? You can check it out below.
