COVID-19: 252 deaths and 22,597 new cases today, 6,778 deaths recorded in August so far

Malaysia has recorded 22,597 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 1,685,510. There are 252 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 15,802. There are 6,778 COVID-19 deaths in August so far which is an average of 242 deaths per day.

The Ministry of Health has reported 19,492 new recoveries and a total of 1,401,160 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 83.13% while the mortality rate is now 0.94%.

There are currently 268,548 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 986 are in ICU while 451 require respiratory support.

Out of the 22,597 new cases today, 12 are imported while 22,585 are transmitted locally. Selangor records the most with 5,814 cases, followed by Sabah with 2,834 cases, Sarawak with 2,427 cases, Kedah with 2,162 cases and Penang with 1,920 cases.
