OPPO Reno6 Pro: Great all-rounder with powerful performance and reliable video capabilities

This post was brought to you by OPPO

The OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G, OPPO’s latest flagship model, just launched this month. Priced at RM2,999, it has a good balance of solid specs and reliable features, especially when it comes to the camera.

While having a sleek and premium look, the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G phone features a powerful processor as well as features like Portrait Video mode, an innovation not very common in the current smartphone landscape. If you’re an avid videographer looking for a new full-featured phone, this one might be for you.

There’s a lot to the Reno6 Pro, so let’s take a deeper look at what this phone can offer.

All the best components wrapped in a sleek package

This phone is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G Mobile Platform and the Kryo 585 CPU, which operates up to 3.2GHz.  Currently, that is the highest clock speed ever achieved in a phone, even beating out many old laptops.

The Reno6 Pro features a 6.5-inch 3D curved display with a 90Hz refresh rate and up to 180Hz touch sampling rate. This allows for a smooth and comfortable viewing experience when looking at videos or even just swiping through apps.

Running ColorOS 11.3 based on Android 11, the phone has 12GB of RAM and has OPPO’s RAM Expansion technology which can convert some of the available ROM storage into additional RAM.

To ensure that the phone does not overheat, the Reno6 Pro has an upgraded multi-cooling system with a 31.68 cm² Ultra-large Vapor Chamber.

A large 4,500mAh battery powers the device, which is enough to keep up with the processor and give you decent battery life. You can use USB-C to fast charge and utilise the 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 technology which can achieve a full 100% charge in a mere 31 minutes.

Equipped with a top-of-the-line X-axis Linear Vibration Motor, this phone can provide powerful and detailed haptic feedback when gaming. Also, customized gaming features like Quick Startup and Game Focus Mode will cut out distractions and make gaming on this phone a breeze.

A camera system that impresses

When it comes to cameras, the Reno6 Pro is impressive both in the hardware and software department.

On the rear of the device is an AI Quad Camera matrix, with a 50MP main camera, a 16MP wide-angle, a 13MP telephoto, and a 2MP macro camera. The front features a 32MP Selfie Camera in the corner, minimally impacting the screen real-estate as the cut-out is quite small.

Furthermore, the hardware features a large 1/1.56 sensor capable of DOL-HDR, a IMX766 sensor co-developed by OPPO and Sony, and a 360-degree Light-Sensing enabled by two sensors, which improves the accuracy of auto-brightness adjustments.

OPPO’s All-Pixel Omni Focus allows for more consistently high-quality photos with its upgraded auto focus. This technology also significantly improves the video recording experience.

The most interesting feature in this phone is the Portrait Video mode. This mode is rumoured to be in upcoming next generation phones by other brands, but OPPO gives it to us early along with some AI enhancements. In this mode, you can do Bokeh Flare Portrait video, AI Highlight video, as well as Focus Tracking.

Bokeh Flare Portrait feature is able to distinguish the human subject from the background so as to brighten the subject and automatically blur the background and boost the light spots. The outline of the light spots is processed and image saturation is increased. It eventually creates cinematic quality bokeh effects with just one click. This feature is applicable to all of the daily scenes while it is extremely suitable when you are using it to capture urban night scenes, amusement parks at night, reflection of lights in the water, fireworks, in front of vehicles, shadow of trees and glittering light on water. This feature not only supports photography but also videography.
