TikTok teams up with Ministry of Health to fight COVID-19 misinformation

TikTok Malaysia announced that they are partnering with MyHealthKKM—the Education Health Division of the Ministry of Health—for a COVID-19 public health awareness campaign. They aim to advocate for mass vaccinations and provides accurate information about COVID-19.

“Under the newly launched #KitaJagaKita campaign, TikTok is working with MyHealthKKM, the Education Health Division of the Ministry of Health, to provide easily accessible verified information and resources related to COVID-19,” wrote TikTok.

Through the campaign, TikTok provides livestreams from public health experts and healthcare professionals who address “key concerns” Malaysians might have about COVID-19. The livestreams also address vaccine hesitancies.

To find the campaign on the TikTok app (iOS, Android), head on to the Discover page which you can find at the bottom of the screen. There will then be a header with the #KitaJagaKita hashtag on the top of the page, which you can press on to lead you to a section where you can watch COVID-19 safety related TikToks and livestreams.

For the livestreams, you can check the schedule listed for the date and time. You can also find out which health expert would be talking, and you can even opt to have notifications for when a livestream would start.

Users will also get up-to-date information and government guidelines on topics which includes the latest COVID-19 numbers, SOPs and changes in the National Plans through the #KitaJagaKita hashtag. According to TikTok, the Ministry of Health will be using the hashtag for PSAa, and bite-sized news and videos—posted on their official TikTok channels, @myhealthkkm and @kkmputrajaya.

“As TikTok increasingly becomes a key platform for communities to come together and share joy, express their creativity and gather information, TikTok hopes to work closely with MyHealthKKM to maximise our impact and provide access to credible information from trusted sources, as part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and positive environment for our users,” said Kristoffer Eduard Rada, Head of Public Policy Malaysia at TikTok.

TikTok also has their own COVID-19 safety information hub, which has answers to general FAQs about the virus and vaccines, as well as tips and guidance on staying safe. These initiatives are in tandem with global partnerships with key public health organisations such as the World Health Organisation, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and UNICEF.

FYI, we have also been quite active on our own TikTok account. We not only post about the latest COVID-19 and vaccine updates, but updates on things related to tech and digital content.
