We heard about US Pizza’s two new pizzas: the Durian Pizza and the Cempedak Pizza, and we wanted to see if they’re worth the try. We also had representatives of three different kinds of Malaysians—people who love durian, people who don’t like durian, and people who are so-so. Well, how did the pizzas fair?
Coming from someone who wasn’t in the video but was present for the shoot, I was slightly worried for the verdict. The durian pizza alone gave out such a pungeant smell in the studio that I kind of felt sorry for the folks who weren’t that into durian (Again, sorry, Raymond!).
I personally fell under the category of “people who are so-so with durian”, but I have grimaced at the thought of any durian flavoured or infused food items. This definitely fell under that category, even though it did actually have real pieces of D24 durian as toppings.
As for the cempedak pizza, the thought of it being covered in cheese made me slightly uncomfortable, as well. But I was most excited about that one. I love pineapple on pizza (sue me, okay!) so maybe it would give sort of the same sweetness to a saltier dish.
For my own verdict? I can confirm that I really do not like durian on other food items—I would just prefer to eat durian as it is. The cempedak pizza was actually delicious, but I would not bother to order it again. I’ll stick with pineapples.
Here’s where you can order your own durian and cempedak pizzas, to judge for yourself:
In my experience, you can order online at US Pizza’s website days in advance. You can even pick your preferred time, and you’d get an email of confirmation as well as a call from the delivery rider on the day itself.
