After introducing an array of devices under the Redmi Note 10 series, Xiaomi is expected to announce the Redmi 10 very soon. This will be their new budget “compact” smartphone and it might be the most affordable device to come with a 50MP camera.
Ahead of the announcement, the Redmi 10 has been leaked through Courts Singapore. Serial leakster Ishan Agarwal had tweeted images of the new device in various angles and you’ll notice that it comes with a rather huge camera bump for its quad-camera setup.
According to the leaked spec-sheet, the Redmi 10 features a 6.5″ Full HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate and it is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, it will run on MediaTek’s Helio G88 processor with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage which is pretty generous for an entry-level device.
In the camera department, the Redmi 10 is expected to come with a 50MP main camera, which is probably the highest in the segment. Other cameras include an 8MP shooter (presumably for ultra-wide-angle and two extra 2MP cameras which are likely used for macro and depth effects. For selfies, the device gets an 8MP front camera that sits in a tiny punch-hole.
Powering the device is said to be a large 5,000mAh battery and it still supports 18W fast charging via USB-C. As seen in the photos, the Redmi 10 still comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack and what appears to be an IR blaster on top. This is a 4G phone and it also supports 5GHz 802.11ac WiFi. Out of the box, it runs on Android 11 with MIUI 12. The Redmi 10 is offered in 3 colours – Sea Blue, Pebble White and Carbon Grey.
According to the listing in Singapore, the Redmi 10 with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at SGD 249 (about RM766). It costs slightly more than the Redmi 9 which was launched last year at SGD 218 for 4GB RAM + 64GB storage (about RM679). If it comes to Malaysia, expect it to be priced lower since the current Redmi 9 was released locally for RM499 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage model and RM599 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version.
We reckon it could be launched for around RM500-700 which is still pretty good value for money for a phone that offers a Full HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a quad-camera setup, and a 5,000mAh battery. When it hits the market, the Redmi 10 would likely clash with the Poco M3 Pro 5G which is priced from RM699. If you have a budget of RM700, which would you get? The Redmi 10 or the Poco M3 Pro 5G?
