COVID-19: 318 deaths and record-high 21,668 new cases today, Kedah and Sabah record over 2,000 cases each

Malaysia has recorded 21,668 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 1,342,215. There are 318 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 1,093,503. In August so far, there are 2,667 deaths recorded, which is an average of 222.2 deaths per day.

The Ministry of Health has reported 17,687 new recoveries and a total of 1,093,503 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 81.47% while the mortality rate is now 0.87%.

There are currently 237,021 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 1,059 are in ICU while 543 require respiratory support.

Out of the 21,668 new cases today, 58 are imported while 21,610 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 6,278 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 2,436 cases, Kedah with 2,143 cases, Sabah with 2,052 cases and Johor with 1,706 cases.
