Malaysia has recorded 18,688 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 1,262,540. There are 360 new deaths reported today which is the highest recorded in a single day.
This is the first time Malaysia has recorded over 300 deaths in a single day and the death toll is now 10,749. For the month of August so far, there are 1,725 COVID-19 deaths which is an average of 215.6 deaths per day.

According to the breakdown, Selangor recorded the most with 221 deaths which include 67 “Brought-in-dead” (BID), followed by Kuala Lumpur with 41 deaths with 7 BID and Melaka with 20 deaths and 3 BID. The states and territories of Perlis, Sarawak and Labuan have recorded zero deaths. Both Sarawak and Labuan have fully vaccinated over 50% of their total population while Perlis has fully vaccinated over 34% of its population.
The Ministry of Health has reported 17,055 new recoveries and a total of 1,026,398 patients have recovered and been discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 81.30% while the mortality rate is now 0.85%.

There are currently 225,393 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 1,095 are in ICU while 571 require respiratory support.
Out of the 18,688 new cases today, 10 are imported while 18,678 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 6,565, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1,883 cases, Kedah with 1,610 cases, Sabah with 1,379 cases and Johor with 1,308 cases.
