Selangor Health Department director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman today said that the manufacturing sector is the biggest contributor to active COVID-19 clusters in the state at 54 per cent.
In a press conference, he added that there was no cluster in Selangor related to the Aidiladha celebrations, while the second and third largest contributors came from the service sector and construction sites.
“The main contributor to COVID-19 clusters in the state of Selangor is the manufacturing sector. This is followed by the service industry, construction sites, business, and lastly, community.
“We also found that there are no clusters in the state related to Aidiladha celebrations. This shows that the people in the state stuck to the SOPs given during the holiday period,” he said.
According to a document shared by the Selangor Health Department, from July 1 until 31, the manufacturing sector recorded 96 active clusters, contributing a total of 54 per cent of the overall clusters in Selangor.
The service sector contributed to 12 per cent of the clusters in the states, 10 per cent from construction sites, seven per cent from businesses, while the smallest contributor to clusters in the state comes from holding facilities with just one active cluster in the time period.
Dr Sha’ari shared that there were also nine clusters from community transmissions, or 5 per cent, but those clusters were detected before Aidiladha celebrations.
He said that the reason why clusters relating to the manufacturing sector is high, he said that this could be due to the workers not adhering to SOPs when not at their workplace.
“Maybe their SOPs were observed at work, but after the workers returned home, they stopped complying with SOP and when they head back to the factory for work, it spreads.
“The cause is not from the factory directly, but from the transmission outside of the factory through its workers. I feel this is what happens because SOPs adherence in factories is very good,” he said.— Malay Mail
