Proton has finally unveiled its X70 Special Edition (SE) with only 2,000 units available in Malaysia. If you’re expecting something radical like a facelift model with performance upgrades, you might be disappointed. Despite its teaser of having “enhanced features” and a “brand new look”, the X70 SE is just a minor refresh with some cosmetic changes.
The Proton X70 SE is based on the current X70 Premium 2WD model which is locally assembled in Tanjung Malim. It still runs on the same 1.8-litre turbo petrol engine that’s paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox. It has the same power output of 135kW (181hp) and 300Nm of torque.
On the exterior, the X70 SE gets blacked-out rear spoiler, roof and side door mirrors. Another major difference is the new 19″ sport rim design and you also get an SE badge on the tailgate.
The dark-theme continues on the inside of the X70 SE. The brown Nappa Leather for the seats, door trims and armrests are now in black. The cream “brushed-metal” looking trims on the dashboard and side panels now get a darker finish. It still retains the same 8″ touchscreen infotainment system powered by GKUI.
Proton has also included a new carpet mat which has an SE logo, so that your rear passengers know that you’re not driving a mainstream X70.
Since this is the SUV’s Premium option, you get the full suite of safety equipment including 6 airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Hill Hold Assist (HHA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Door Opening Warning System (DOW), Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The car also gets an electronic tailgate, “boss-switch” control for the front passenger seat, ventilated front seats and 360-degree camera.
The Proton X70 SE retails for RM123,800 with the current SST exemption that’s running until 31st December 2021. That’s RM4,000 more than the current X70 Premium 2WD which now retails for RM119,800.
If you’re interested, the Proton X70 SE is now available for booking. You can book online for RM99 from Proton’s website.
