Samsung Galaxy M22 renders leaked online, looks like a rebranded Galaxy A22

The Samsung Galaxy A22 was announced globally back in June, but has already been rebranded into the Galaxy F22 for the Indian market. Now, it seems as though Samsung will be rebranding it again, this time into the Samsung Galaxy M22.

Not to be confused with the Galaxy A22 5G, the Galaxy A22 is a 4G device with solid entry-level specs. The Galaxy M22 will likely follow the same path, offering the same MediaTek Helio G80 system-on-chip underneath, mated to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It’ll also have the same 6.4-inch, 720 x 1600 HD+ Super AMOLED Display that has a 90Hz refresh rate, with a small waterdrop notch at the top of the device housing a 13MP selfie camera.

The similarities between the two continue, with the quad-camera setup on the Galaxy A22 and Galaxy F22 also found on the Galaxy M22. It’s main camera is a 48MP sensor flanked by 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors. There’s also an LED flash located just to the bottom left of the camera bump.

Where the differences lie between the Galaxy A22 and Galaxy M22 is the back of the device. The leaked renders show a fairly different back panel with vertical ridges, compared to the Galaxy A22’s smooth plastic back. The vertical ridges are also present on the older Samsung Galaxy M12. Another reported difference is the battery—the Galaxy M22 is said to come with a 6,000mAh battery capable of 25W fast charging. The Galaxy A22 meanwhile only has a 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging.

The price of the Samsung Galaxy M22 has also been leaked prior to this. The 4GB RAM + 128GB storage model was spotted online last week on an European website, and is priced at €239.90 (~RM1,187.13). This makes it slightly more expensive than the Galaxy A22, which starts at €209, albeit for just 64GB of storage. It should be noted though that Malaysian prices are typical much lower than if you were to directly convert it from Euro. This ought to put the Galaxy M22’s price below RM1,000.

It remains to be seen if the Samsung Galaxy M22 will be made officially available in Malaysia, but we do know that it should be coming to our neighbours Thailand. Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission has already certified the device with the model number SM-M225FV.

While it’ll likely not be the best bang-for-buck offering out there, for those wanting to stick with the Samsung ecosystem the Galaxy M22 might be an intriguing option. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a sub-RM1000 smartphone that’s 5G-ready, the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G or Redmi Note 10 5G are both already available to purchase in Malaysia.
