Malaysia has recorded 6,988 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 758,967. There are 84 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 5,254. According to the breakdown, 31 deaths reported today are aged below 60 years old and there are 9 deaths that are brought-in-dead. Out of today’s fatalities, 19 had no comorbidities.
The Ministry of Health has reported 5,580 new recoveries and a total of 688,260 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 90.68% while the mortality rate is now 0.69%.
There are currently 65,453 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 917 are in ICU while 445 require respiratory support.
Out of the 6,988 new cases today, 5 are imported while 6,983 are transmitted locally. Selangor continues to top the list with 2,885 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 988 cases, Negeri Sembilan with 692 cases and Sarawak with 544 cases.
According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 21 new clusters have been identified today and 11 are workplace related. In response to the high number of cases in the Klang Valley, the National Security Council has announced Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for most parts of Selangor and selected areas in Kuala Lumpur. This will be enforced for a period of two weeks from 3rd to 16th July 2021.
