Honor may join the foldable device race with the Honor Magic Fold

Foldable devices have slowly but surely been trickling into our lives, as more and more companies begin looking at making their own foldable. The latest company reportedly joining the race is the newly-independent Honor, with the Honor Magic Fold.

The latest Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) report is out now, and has an interesting mention of Honor in their highlights. According to the DSCC report, Honor developing their own foldable called the Magic Fold. It will have in-folding panels, similar to how the Samsung Galaxy Fold closes its main display. The panels themselves are reportedly going to be made by Visionox and BOE. There haven’t been any other rumours on the internal specs though.

The Huawei Mate X2 foldable

Last time we touched on Google and possibly Xiaomi coming with their own foldable smartphones, and this new report claims that we can expect to see these coming in late-2021. They also claim that Oppo and Vivo are also planning foldable devices, with all four of them set to use Samsung’s proprietary ultra-thin cover glass.

As for Honor, we can expect them to announce their Magic Fold after the others mentioned. This means they might be planning a late-2021 or early-2022 release for the Honor Magic Fold. It’s also likely that Honor’s foldable would be more akin to the Samsung Galaxy Fold series than the Galaxy Z Flip.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

It’s certainly interesting times for Honor, having recently split off from Huawei. They are set to release their first smartphone with Qualcomm Snapdragon system-on-chips in the post-Huawei era. If they do launch the Magic Fold, it could signal a renaissance for the Chinese company.
