MagicBook X 15: Honor Malaysia’s sub-RM3,000 laptops are now available for pre-order

If you’re looking for a new laptop on a budget, Honor Malaysia has just introduced its new MagicBook X 15 lineup. It looks virtually the same as the recently announced MagicBook 15 but these new options cost less than RM3,000.

Pricing and availability

The Honor MagicBook X 15 is offered in two variants and below is the official pricing:

  • Intel Core i3-10110U, 8GB RAM + 256GB storage – RM2,299
  • Intel Core i5-10210U, 8GB RAM + 512GB storage – RM2,899

If you’re interested, the laptops are now available for pre-order starting today, 12th June until 18th June 2021 from authorised dealers including stores on Lazada and Shopee. Stocks will be available nationwide from 19th June 2021.

As a pre-order promo, you can get an Honor Laptop Backpack worth RM179 while stocks last. If you buy the Core i5 version, you will also get an additional free wireless mouse.

Hardware Specs

At first glance, you might think that this is a premium or higher-grade series because of the “X” moniker. In reality, the MagicBook X 15 is a basically cheaper variant of the MagicBook 15 as it uses the previous 10th gen Intel processor. Although it shares the same exterior design, the MagicBook X appears to lack blue highlights for the top lid chamfer and logo.

The MagicBook X 15 gets a 15.6″ Full HD display that offers a screen-to-body ratio of 87%. Under the hood, it runs on Intel’s 10th gen i3 or i5 processor that’s paired with DDR4 RAM and it uses NVMe PCIe SSD storage.

Similar to the MagicBook 15, you also get a pop-up webcam that’s hidden on the top-row function keys and a power button with integrated fingerprint sensor. In terms of ports, it has two USB-A (1x USB 3.0 Gen 1, 1x USB 2.0), one USB-C, a HDMI port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

If you have a compatible Huawei and Honor device, it also supports multi-screen collaboration on this Honor laptop. Also included is a 65W USB-PD USB-C fast charger which is rated to deliver 70% charge in an hour. Overall, it weighs 1.56kg and has a thickness of 16.9mm. Out of the box, it runs on Microsoft Windows 10 Home.

Interestingly, Huawei has also introduced a similar-specced MateBook D 15 with Core i3 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It’s priced at RM2,599 and it is bundled with RM498 worth of freebies.

Prefer a laptop with beefier specs? You can also consider the Honor MagicBook 15 with 11th gen Core i5-1135G7, Iris Xe Graphics, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD which is currently going for RM3,699.
