There’s a bit of a hit and miss when you look up iOS 14.6 on Twitter—as users have more to complain about it than focus on its new features. Mostly, there are iPhone and iPad users who have reported of excessive battery drainage after the recent iOS 14.6 update.
There are also users that have reported of overheating as well as battery drainage. A user on a MacRumors forum that reported of their iPhone 12 Pro overheating while simply browsing Safari. Twitter user @cosmicallytiki also mentioned that her iPad Pro battery drained faster and overheated while using Procreate.
“I usually got about an hour of battery per 10% drawing or 15% if I would listen to music or Twitch. Now it’s almost 15 – 20% just drawing for an hour,” they tweeted.
Sure, your battery draining out faster can also mean a deteriorating battery health. But the issue seems to be impacting quite a number of users using all devices—regardless of battery health.
Previously, Apple has provided a battery health recalibration feature for iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max with the iOS 14.5 update to help recalibrate its battery health. With the update, users reported that their iPhone 11 battery health had changed for the better.
The iOS 14.6 update includes a few new features, including letting users create custom app icons and place new widgets. For iPad users, new Scribble feature lets you use the Apple Pencil to write in any text field for the tablet to convert it to text—instead of always pulling up the keyboard.
However, with quite a few users reported of battery drainage and overheating, people might not want to update their devices to iOS 14.6 right now if they haven’t already. Apple hasn’t commented on the feedback yet, but if the issue is software related, it may decide to address it in another iOS update.
