The National COVID-19 Immunisation Program has hit a new vaccination milestone yesterday after it administered more than 100,000 doses in a single day. For yesterday alone (27th May), a total of 107,340 vaccine doses have been administered throughout Malaysia.
According to the COVID-19 immunisation task force’s data, 58,084 individuals have received their first dose while another 49,256 individuals have received their 2nd dose yesterday. With the arrival of more vaccine doses in large numbers, Malaysia aims to hit its target of 150,000 doses per day in June and more vaccination centres will be open nationwide.
In total, Malaysia has administered 2,712,376 doses since the start of the vaccination program on 24th February 2021. A total of 1,725,364 individuals have received at least 1 dose and 987,012 of them have completed their vaccinations with two doses.
Malaysia is currently administering 3 vaccines namely Pfizer, Sinovac and AstraZeneca. Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Khairy Jamaluddin has announced yesterday that the AstraZeneca vaccines will be put back into the mainstream immunisation programme following its tremendous response received during the two opt-in rounds.
The government has also procured an additional 12.8 million doses of Pfizer vaccine, bringing the total to 44.8 million doses. This is sufficient to cover 70% of the population. For Sinovac, 12 million doses will be shipped in the next two months. This includes 5,089,800 doses of local fill-finished vaccines from Pharmaniaga and 6,910,200 finished doses from China.
The next batch of 610,000 doses from AstraZeneca are expected to arrive in the next two months from a production plant in Thailand and it is subject to NPRA approval.
He also shared that those who have registered for the vaccine will soon be given the option to select their preferred vaccine as well as appointment location and date via MySejahtera. They are looking at implementing the feature which will be available with a future MySejahtera update.
