Malaysia has recorded 3,807 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 444,484. There are 17 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 1,700.
The Ministry of Health has reported 3,454 new recoveries and a total of 405,388 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 91.20% while the mortality rate is now 0.39%.
There are currently 37,396 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 434 are in ICU while 224 require respiratory support.
Out of the 3,807 new cases today, 5 are imported while 3,802 are transmitted locally. Selangor reported the most with 1,149 cases, followed by Sarawak with 649 cases, Kelantan with 329 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 320 cases.
The Ministry of Health has identified 19 new clusters today and most are from workplace-related. Below is the full list:
The Nasional Security Council (NSC) has added Singapore into the list of countries that have reported infections of SARS-CoV-2 variant of concern (VOC) within the community. This is based on reports issued by Singapore’s Ministry of Health where cases have involved South African B.1.351, United Kingdom B.1.1.7, Brazil B1.1.28 (P1) including the Variant of Interest (VOI) from India which is also identified as B.1.617.1.
As a result, the NSC has agreed to suspend the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) scheme between Malaysia and Singapore from 13th May 2021. Visitors entering Malaysia from Singapore must undergo mandatory quarantine for 14 days.
