Malaysia has recorded 4,519 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 436,944. There are 25 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 1,657.
The Ministry of Health has reported 2,719 new recoveries and a total of 398,723 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 91.25% while the mortality rate at 0.38%.
There are currently 36,564 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 393 are in ICU while 210 require respiratory support.
Out of the 4,519 new cases today, 5 are imported while 4,514 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 1,722 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 557 cases, Sarawak with 479 cases and Kelantan with 373 cases.
The Ministry of Health has identified 16 new clusters and half are workplace-related. Below is the list of newly identified COVID-19 clusters:
Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has said majority of cases reported in the country are sporadic within the community where the source of infections is unknown. He added that the sporadic cases are higher compared to cluster cases.
He added that the South Africa B.1.351 variant is believed to have spread in Kelantan and there are 14 interstate clusters that are still active. The Ministry of Health has proposed to the National Security Council to prohibit interstate travel, impose school holidays until the end of this month and bar any large gatherings.
