Xiaomi introduces Redmi K40 Gaming Edition with Razer “keyboard”, physical triggers and 120Hz OLED display

The Redmi K40 series now has a brand new smartphone model that focuses on hardcore mobile gaming. Dubbed as the Gaming Edition, the new Redmi K40 device comes with physical triggers and it runs on MediaTek’s flagship processor with 5G.

Upfront, the K40 Gaming Edition comes with a 6.67″ Full HD+ OLED display that boasts 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling rate. It boasts a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 and DCI-P3 colour gamut.

Under the hood, the gaming device is powered by a 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chip that boasts an Antutu score of over 720,000. To keep things cool during intensive gaming sessions, it uses a cooling system that uses graphene, graphite and vapour chamber that offers a large 11540mm² heat dissipation area. The K40 Gaming Edition can be configured with up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

For taking pictures, the rear gets a triple-camera setup that consists of a 64MP f/1.65 main camera that uses a 1/2.0″ sensor, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP f/2.4 macro shooter.

The camera bump also offers pulse ambient lighting that supports 16 million colours. If you look closely, the LED flash for the camera is shaped like a lightning bolt. Upfront, the device gets a 16MP selfie camera that’s housed in a centre-aligned punch-hole.

The biggest highlight is its dual mechanical shoulder triggers that can be released with a slider mechanism. According to Xiaomi, the triggers offer a gamepad-like experience and it has been tested over 1.5 million times. The Redmi gaming device also gets a pair of stereo speakers that are tuned by JBL Audio and it also supports Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

For a more immersive gaming experience, it also gets a 4D vibration motor that offers over 200 vibration effects. Probably the first time ever on a smartphone, the K40 Gaming Edition also boasts a custom Razer “mechanical keyboard”. From the looks of it, the custom skin can provide mechanical keyboard-like haptics and it features Razer’s Chroma RGB lighting.

The K40 gaming device gets a large 5,065mAh battery and it supports 67W fast charging via USB-C. Also included in the box is a charger and an L-type USB-C cable which makes it practical to charge the phone while gaming.

Besides supporting 5G networks in both SA and NSA architecture, it also supports dual-frequency GPS, NFC, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and it still comes with an infrared blaster.
