Glow and Behold, Apple’s virtual WWDC 2021 is happening on 7 June 2021

For the second year running, Apple has just announced that the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place virtually, with the event scheduled from the 7th of June till the 11th of June 2021. The WWDC 2021, of course, will showcase the latest developments in the Apple software world, and we expect to get updates on upcoming software upgrades for the iPhone, iPad, and other devices in the Apple ecosystem. Just like last year, access will be free of charge for all developers.

This will, according to Susan Prescott, VP of Worldwide Developer Relations and Enterprise and Education Marketing at Apple, be the “biggest” WWDC conference yet.

“We are working to make WWDC21 our biggest and best yet, and are excited to offer Apple developers new tools to support them as they create apps that change the way we live, work, and play.”

Among other things, the conference will also include announcements and keynote addresses, with viewers able to attend State of the Union stages, online sessions, 1:1 labs offering technical guidance, and “new ways for developers to interact with Apple”.

“The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference is coming to a screen near you, June 7 to 11. Join the worldwide developer community for an all-online program with exciting announcements, sessions, and labs at no cost. You’ll get a first look at the latest Apple platforms, tools, and technologies—so you can create your most innovative apps and games yet.”

What to expect at WWDC 2021

As mentioned above, the annual WWDC conference centres around the latest and greatest in software for Apple. This year, we’re expecting to see Apple announce iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, macOS 12, and tvOS 15—along with early stage beta releases for developers.

Beyond that, the company has not revealed much on any potential new announcements. However, I noticed something rather interesting with Apple’s promotional materials for the conference, one that might be a clue on what to expect: Apple Glass. The long-rumoured AR glasses would certainly make a splash, and all images I’ve seen for WWDC 2021 depict a memoji character wearing glasses. Of course, this might simply be a coincidence—or Apple leading us down a rabbit hole—but still.

I will say, however, that I don’t expect to see an actual launch for Apple Glass—not at WWDC, that is. Perhaps we might get a sneak preview, or some information for developers who are planning to work on the platform. Regardless, it’s a tantalising prospect for developers and users alike.

In any case, if you’re interested in WWDC 2021, click here for the Apple Developer website, or download the Apple Developer app on the  App Store. To find out more, click here. PS: if you have any idea on what the tagline “Glow and Behold” could mean, let us know in the comments section below—I’m stumped.
